Mable Taylor
May 14, 1925 - February 3, 2022
Mable’s Journey Mable P. Taylor, known as Mae by most and Grandma Mae by her many grandchildren, was the daughter of the late Budd and Janie Brown Cornelius. She was welcomed by her parents on May 14,1925 in Portsmouth, Virginia. On the eve of Thursday, February 3, 2022, at the age of ninety-six (96), she transitioned into her eternal rest. Mae spent her childhood and a significant portion of her teens in her hometown of Portsmouth, Virginia, where she would receive her education. In 1941, she wed her husband, Martinus Powell who sacrificed his life while serving his country in 1945. Later, Mae relocated to the Eastern Shore of Virginia in 1951, where she would remarry the late Joe Taylor and raise her family. She birthed two children, Shirley and Melvin. Mae had various jobs including the shipyard, working in the fields and spent many years working in the clam house. She lived a long, love-filled, joyous life. She adored spending time with her family and friends - especially her daughter, Shirley. She also enjoyed reading books, watching her court television shows, and wrestling. More than anything, her favorite pastime was listening to the Swap Shop on the radio every day. She leaves to cherish unforgettable memories: her daughter, Shirley Sheppard; grandchildren, Lois (Harry), Melvin, Jr., Michelle (Rickey) and Charles, Jr.; great grandchildren, La’Wanda, Donzell (Kesha), Rashunda, Tiaria, Davon, Harry, Jr. and Dawan; eleven (11) great-great grandchildren; five (5) great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Mae was preceded in death by her only son, Melvin, her brothers, William, Ernest, and Raymond and her granddaughter Margret Ann. SORROWFULLY SUBMITTED ~ THE FAMILY
