LUETTA’S LIFE AND LEGACY “Precious Lord, take my hand. Lead me on, let me stand. I am tired, I'm weak, I am worn. Through the storm, through the night, lead me on to the light. Take my hand, precious Lord. Lead me home” On September 29, 2021 at 7:30 a.m. Luetta Smith departed this life surrounded by a band of glowing and singing angels and family. Extolling “All Is Well With My Soul,” take your rest, good and faithful soldier of Christ. Your work on earth is complete. Luetta was born on January 7, 1934 in Mappsville, Virginia to the late Isaac Savage and Alberta Bagwell. She was the eldest of two children. She was a product of the Virginia school system. There is where she met and married her sweetheart (the late Arthur Smith). From their sixty-six (66) year marriage, three children were born. Luetta was a retired CNA (Certified Nurse’s Aide). She retired after twenty-eight (28) years of service due to a back injury that required surgery. After retiring, her main focus was on her family. She was the backbone for several family generations. She mentored and guided her grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren with an abundance of love. She loved the Lord and gave her life to Christ early in life. As she was called by many, Mother was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church in Salisbury, Maryland. She served New Hope as a member of the Sanctuary Choir and on the Pastor’s Aide. Luetta had a passion for helping mankind, which she demonstrated by her willingness to open her home to anyone in need. One of her favorite sayings was, “Go with Jesus, and He will go with you.” Luetta loved the Lord with all her heart. The day before her departure, she broke out in song, singing “I must tell Jesus, I must tell Jesus. I cannot bear these burdens alone. I must tell Jesus, I must tell Jesus. Jesus can help me, My Jesus alone.” She knew her time was near and was ready to see her Father. Coming from a loving family, she was a wonderful mother not only to her children but to anyone who needed a mother’s love and guidance. She was a wife, doting grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and a wonderful friend. She was an outgoing social woman of distinction with an infectious personality that uplifted those who came to know her. Luetta Smith leaves to cherish her fond and precious memory: one son, Stephen Allen Smith of Salisbury, MD and one daughter, Donzella Renette Smith of Silver Spring, MD; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ellen Robertson (William) of Norfolk, VA and one sister-in-law, Frances Smith of Salisbury, MD and two devoted friends, Mamie Morris and Olivia Henderson, both of Salisbury, MD. In addition, her eternal spirit will always be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Arthur Smith; daughter, Jaunesta Smith Cannon; son-in-law, Wallace Cannon; daughter-in-law, Anita Smith and granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Smith. Lovingly Submitted ~ The Family
