Reflections of Lucy’s Life I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day II Timothy 4:7-8 A Time to Be Born Lucy Earline Truitt Matthews, daughter of the late Leon “Bill” Truitt and Clarita Roberts Truitt, was born on May 21, 1953 in Salisbury, Maryland. On Wednesday, November 17, 2021 God, in His Infinite Wisdom and Compassion, sent His angels to the bedside of Lucy and ushered her quietly and peacefully to eternal rest, with her loving family by her side. A Time to Grow Lucy, affectionately known as “Luc, Aunt Luc, and Aunt Lou” by her family, received her formal education in the Delmar public school system. She attended, for many years, Solid Rock Church of God In Christ in Delmar, Delaware. Lucy worked for twenty (20) plus years at Perdue Farms in Georgetown, Delaware. She went on to work with Dove Pointe, BayShore Services and United Needs and Abilities (UNA) as a Home Health Aide. Lucy possessed a great deal of strength and courage as she fought the good fight and she has now finished her race, after enduring many health challenges. We did not know the level of pain she experienced and endured continuously on a daily basis because Lucy’s spirit never waivered. She was warm, compassionate, fun-loving, and always willing to go the extra mile for her family and friends whom she loved dearly. A Time to Love Lucy leaves to cherish loving memories: her two sons, Rayvon (Devoria) Truitt and Donnell (Shakeisha) Truitt; a special grandson whom she raised as a son, Dontra Truitt; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; five sisters, Leola (Leroy) Ballard, Joan (Jerome) Maxfield, Eleanor Truitt, Sylvia Truitt and Virginia (Thebbie) Jackson; two brothers, Errond (Martha) Truitt and Clifton (Debbie) Truitt; two aunts, Iantha Gattis and Thelma Evans and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Leon “Bill” Truitt and Clarita Roberts Truitt and her devoted husband, Nelson Matthews. A Time to Rejoice On Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Tidal Health in Salisbury, Maryland, Lucy heard the call and she was gently escorted to where healing waters flow. She was called into the newness of life with the grace that had sustained the old. Her illness was washed away in the soothing current of love. Can’t you see her rejoicing as she walks those streets paved with gold!
