Katherine Elizabeth Hicks McCauley Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Katherine McCauley, of Smyrna, Delaware, departed this life peacefully, on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Bayhealth Medical Center, in Dover, Delaware. She was born on Monday, December 2, 1930, at Kent General Hospital, in Dover, Delaware. She was the daughter of the late James Earnest Hicks and Anna Little Hicks. She was 90 years old. Katherine retired after 30 years of service with Scotts Nursing Home and Geriatric Services. Katherine loved serving the Lord at Mount Olive Holiness Pentecostal Church, in Smyrna, Delaware, where she served on the Usher Board. She loved to play the piano, going to Spence’s Bazaar, other flea markets, and various yard sales. She loved to eat and travel with her husband to Atlantic City, Rehoboth Beach and many other places. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Chanley Thomas McCauley; two sisters, Dorothy Hicks and Helen Hooten (Marcus); five brothers, Earnest Hicks, Nathan Hicks, Winfred Hicks, Clarence Hicks and Isaac Hicks; cousin, Calvin Leroy Hicks; and a set of twin grandchildren, Ashley and Alfred Clark. Katherine leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, Leonard P. Demby (Teresa) of Harrington, DE; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Hicks and Fay Hicks of Kenton, DE; and a special niece, Della Waters, of Dover, DE Katherine helped to raise 35 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; four godchildren, Leonard Butcher, Shara Brinkley and Randy Demby, all of Dover, DE and Devante Wilson of GA; and a host of nieces and nephews, whom she played an important role in each of their lives. Katherine also leaves to cherish her memory, a very special cousin, Darlene Demby.
