Obituary Henry Winfield Thomas, the fourth of seven children born to the late Charles Wesley and Maria Elizabeth Parker Thomas, transitioned on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the University of Maryland in Easton, MD at the age of 89. Henry was born in Salem, MD on September 14, 1932. He received his education in the public schools of Dorchester County and graduated from St. Clair High School in Cambridge, MD in 1952. Henry served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 as a corporal and spent all his adult life in Hurlock, MD. His first factory job was at Continental Can (Crown) in Hurlock, MD for over 30 years until the company ceased. He loved working as a forklift driver and developed working experience and friendships that lasted throughout the years. His last employment was working for the Dorchester County public school system as a bus driver. On August 9, 1964, Henry married Mary R. Cornish. They celebrated 42 years of marriage. Henry was a faithful and active member of Hurlock United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Methodist Men and the Men’s Choir. Henry was also a member of the Prospect Lodge #95 for over 50+ years as a Postmaster and American Legion Blake-Blackston Post #77. A couple of Henry’s favorite things to do were attending crab feasts, traveling, watching the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Ravens, Judge Judy, doing crossword puzzles and of course eating fried chicken-preferably the leg and thigh. Henry also loved gritting his teeth when he was upset about something. Henry leaves to mourn: 4 daughters, Bernice (Eddie) Beasley, Diane Travers, Jacqueline Cornish and Gwendolyn Cornish, and a son, Ronald (Brenda) Adams; 10 grandchildren, Tianne (Maurice) Blount, Jamie (Monga) Tucker, Shermaine Travers, Shanika Travers, Jason Travers, Deante’ Cornish, Deshon Cornish, Lanell Cornish, Shalondra Cornish and Regan Wade, 16 great grandchildren and 5 great greatgrandchildren; one sister, Vietta Allen; closest friend, Evelyn Sampson; best friends, Daniel Rhodes, Ralph Young and Jonathan (JT) Thomas and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, Henry was preceded in death by a son Gaviyas Cornish, 2 brothers, William (Ann) Thomas and Vincent (Mildred) Thomas, 3 sisters, Virginia Cooper, Annie (George) Murray, Velma (Elijah) Gibbs, and a great grandson, TaKyler Cornish.
