HELEN’S LIFE AND LEGACY... When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul. Helen Sarah Gillett, a resident of Girdletree, Maryland, departed this life at the age of eighty-five (85) on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Tidal Health in Salisbury, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mae Bratten. After receiving her formal education in the Worcester County public school system, Helen was employed at Berlin Nursing Home for a number of years. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a very early age in her life. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Coolspring United Methodist Church in Girdletree, Maryland until her transition. A very faithful and dedicated servant of God, Helen loved praising and serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Everyone she met, she was sure to tell them of the goodness of the Lord and how He blessed her over and over again. She always reminded everyone to pray. One of her favorite hymns was, “He has always stood by my side.” She was a member of the Usher Ministry, Helping Hands and assisted with any other position in which she was needed at her church. Helen leaves behind to cherish precious memories: one sister, Gertrude Shockley, one sister-in-law, Mary Bratten and one son, Sylvester Bratten (Raythel), all of Snow Hill, Maryland; one daughter, Jocelyn Ayres (Joseph) of Salisbury, Maryland; her seven grandchildren, Jermain Ayres (Nikole) of Salisbury, Maryland, Martina Moise (Marcelin) of South Carolina, Lokisha Reddon (Timothy) of Salisbury, Maryland, Tykisha Johnson (Bobbie) of Virginia, David and Donnie Waters, both of Salisbury, Maryland and Michelle Johnson (Donte) of Salisbury, Maryland; nineteen (19) great grand children; two (2) great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her late husband, Ernest Bratten, four brothers, two sisters, one daughter, Barbara Johnson, one son, Ernest Bratten and two great grand daughters.
