Gladys Mae Tingle (Fisher)

Obituary “May the work I’ve done speak for me…” Gladys Mae Fisher Tingle, devoted wife, active mother, supportive grandmother, loving sibling, and generous friend, transitioned from earth to glory on Friday, February 12, 2021. Gladys’ earthly journey began on July 10, 1935, given life through her parents, the late Lucinda Herroed Fisher and Francis A. Fisher. Always a strong-willed woman, Gladys gave her life to Christ at an early age, and she never ceased to serve and sing His praises from her youth to her final days. “May the life I live speak for me…” Gladys was educated in the Queen Anne’s County Public Schools. As one of the eldest of the Fisher children, she helped to nurture her brothers and sisters and cared for her aging and ailing relatives. Gladys worked in many capacities over the years, such as domestic management, elderly care, teaching assistant, bookkeeper, receptionist, cook, oyster shucker, and most importantly exceptional wife and mother. A divinely woven union, Gladys married Wilford Lemond Tingle, and their example of a beautifully ordained marriage began. Together, they raised their three children: Francis Addison, Cecilia Devonne, and Rita Odessa. Their love knowing no bounds, they also helped to raise their Goddaughter, Leslie Dawne and their grandson, Marion Andre. Gladys always played an active role in her children’s lives, serving in the PTA, Band Boosters, and chaperoning field trips. She was also devoted to her husband’s legacy by acting as receptionist, secretary, and bookkeeper for Tingle’s Concrete Construction for many years. “May the service I give speak for me…” Gladys’s life was a living testimony, demonstrating God’s grace and mercy, richness and blessings. Gladys began her Christian journey at Robinsons AME Church in Grasonville, MD, and was a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Queenstown, MD. She was involved in several aspects of ministry, including Youth Christian Education, Sunday School Superintendent, The School of Missions, The Ladies Missionary Society, Director of various children’s choirs including the John Wesley Junior Choir, member of The Echoes of Faith, and Lay Minister in the United Methodist Church. “…I want to hear Him say, “Well done…” Gladys has touched many lives throughout the community by her active service and her interaction with her children, grandchildren, and their friends over the years. All who encountered “Mommy” or “Mom-Mom” instantly fell in love with her and they became family. Because of this, Gladys has extended family all over the United States and beyond. Along with a host of adopted family and cherished friends, she leaves to honor her life her husband, Wilford; children, Francis (Mattie), Cecilia (Mark), and Rita (Rendal Freddie); niece/Goddaughter, Leslie Dawne and grandson Marion André whom she raised; sisters, Ruth, Mary, and Marilyn Michelle; in-laws Mildred (George) Powell, Freddie Tingle, Barbara (Harvey) Thomas, Robert (Rose) Tingle, and Cecilia (James) Fisher; a special niece, Tulani; eight grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gladys was pre-deceased by her brothers, Lester Whittico and Francis B. Fisher; sisters, Rebecca A. Turner, A. Kathleen Fisher, and Patricia L. Fisher; and grandson, Terrance Malone.
