Florence Brown Palmore

March 17, 1945 - February 26, 2022

Florence Patricia Brown-Palmore, also affectionately known as “Teedy”, was born to the late Louis and Dorothy Brown on March 17, 1945, in Easton, Maryland. She transitioned peacefully on February 26, 2022, at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware, at the age of 76. Florence received her early education in the Queen Anne’s County School System and completed her education in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was introduced to Jesus Christ by her parents at an early age and attended service at Robinson’s A.M.E. Church, when she would return home to visit family and friends. Florence moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and eventually completed her education at the Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc (PIC) and as a result of her training she was able to secure a position at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music in 1974. In 1984, she was recognized for her service as an exceptional employee and when asked about her work environment, her reply was “WE ARE FAMILY”. While working at Temple she developed an interest in music and later took piano lessons and purchased a piano for her home where she played to relax. She retired from Temple after 48 years of exceptional services in 2022. Florence was an active member of First United Baptist Church, under the leadership of Bishop Samuel Adkins. She enjoyed the friendships she cultivated, the trips with her church friends, the Sunday dinners as well as being a member of The Gospel Choir. She enjoyed serving as the Financial Secretary for several Women’s Day campaigns. Florence cherished all of her many roles but her most important roles were being a mother and a grandmother. In her free time, she enjoyed making meals for her family, summer cookouts and family vacations. She always made time to eat her favorite Maryland crabs when returning home. If she could not get home, she would make the request to Junie bring them to Philadelphia. She attended every graduation and celebrated every achievement. She enjoyed her relationships with her siblings. They were all very close and talked almost daily. She was also a dedicated caregiver to her husband, Edward Palmore, and supported her older sister when her health declined. Florence will forever be remembered to friends and family as a loving, kind, consistent, caring, compassionate and selfless spirit who always saw the best in others. She was love personified and made sure every person she met felt her warmth. She was truly an extraordinary woman and was loved by all who knew her. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Louis Brown; her siblings, Ottis Ryans, Sr., James Brown, Louis Brown, Jr., and Edna Mae Murray. Florence leaves to mourn her passing, husband,: Edward Palmore of Philadelphia, PA; sister, Margaret Brown of Grasonville, MD; daughter and son, Carla Brown of Philadelphia, PA, and William Hammond, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Wanda Hammond of Dover, DE; seven grandchildren, Kiyona Brown, Willanda Collins and Waniah Hammond of Dover, DE, Christian Paulhill, Sr. of Philadelphia, PA, Nikita Wongus of Easton, MD and Wiliam Hammond III and Wontrell Hammond of Orlando, FL; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
