David Satchell Jr.

DAVID’S JOURNEY David Russell Satchell, Jr. was born on April 24, 1941 and departed this life on November 25, 2022 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital with his wife by his side. He was preceded in death by: his parents, David and Ruth Satchell; ten brothers, Rueben, Charlie, William, David O, Irvin, Benjamin, Archie Lee, Herman, Rufus, and Clarence; four sisters, Ellen, Betty, Mary, and Bernice and two daughters, Vera and Sandra. David, also known to many as Duke, was educated in the Accomack County public school system. He started his career off by driving trucks for Shore Fertilizer. He later became employed at American Original Clam House as a supervisor. After a few years, he realized his true passion was being on the road and he began working at Oceanway Transport. He became well-known over the CB Channel as “Country Bulldog.” Time passed and he became a short haul driver for T&W Block, from where he later retired due to his declining health. In his early years, Duke gave his life to Christ and was saved. He later gained a love for singing gospel music and over the years joined many singing groups. During his time in New York, he joined his first group called, “Minister Missouri and the Singing Stars.” After returning back to the Shore, he became a member of the “Wondering Four” garnering attention for his song “Oh, Mother Don’t You Worry About Me.” When they retired, he later joined the “Pilgrim Five”, then “Resurrection” alongside his son Ryan, and finally ending his singing career with the “Delmarva Gospel Singers.” Duke will always be remembered for his outgoing and unfiltered personality. Whether he was cracking jokes, acting silly, or just running his mouth, he loved being the center of attention. No matter the occasion, there was never a dull moment in his presence. He always made it his mission to make everyone in the room fill up with laughter. He enjoyed watching TV and reminiscing about his bodybuilding days, during which he had won several trophies. He also enjoyed cutting grass, because no one could ever cut it quite like him, and lastly he loved spending time with his wife. From eating breakfast at their favorite restaurant or riding along backroads and sightseeing, they were always inseparable. Duke had an unforgettable and contagious spirit and he will be missed by all who knew him. Duke leaves precious and unforgettable memories with: his loving wife, Lula Mae Satchell of Accomac, VA; five sons, David Brown of Savannah, GA, David Bailey of Accomac, VA, Tony Johnson of Richmond, VA, Ryan (Catrina) Satchell of Bloxom, VA, and Billy (Charlene) Downs of Norfolk, VA; three daughters, Michelle Johnson of Cheriton, VA, Felicia (Fernanzer) Moore of Parksley, VA and Bridgechelle (Devin) Warner of Parksley, VA; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-seven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends who will all cherish his memory forever.
