Cleophas Thomas Chandler

Cleophas Thomas Chandler of Georgetown, Delaware, passed away on February 14, 2022, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Delaware, with his wife by his side. He was the only child born to the late George and Mary Chandler, on April 1, 1937. Cleophas attended Mary N. Smith High School in Accomack County, Virginia. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, then went on to Tyler Barber School in New York. He later went to work at the Division of Motor Vehicles in Georgetown, Delaware, where he held the position of Driver Improvement Officer. Cleophas was a member of The Bible Church of Christ Inc., in Dagsboro, Delaware. He served as Administrator, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and saxophone player. He was a supporter of the Sussex Tech Ravens basketball team, holding season tickets for years. From the bleachers he would keep the referees straight, letting them know when they made a bad call. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Damita Chandler; a grandson, Chad Conquest; and a nephew, Warren Lewis. Cleophas leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 63 years, Ruth Lewis Chandler; two sons, Steve Bailey (Cassandra) of Accomac, Virginia and Kenneth Chandler; two daughters, Renell Beach (Rufus Jr.) of Accomac, Virginia and Debra Conquest of Melfa, Virginia; five grandchildren, Rufus Beach III, Darrell Conquest, Jerry Sweat, Christopher Harmon, and Josiah Chandler; sister-in-law, Lucy Redden (Donald); and three nephews, Rodney Lewis, Gregory Smith and Tim Smith.
