Arlene Louise Coleman
August 9, 1953 - October 22, 2021
When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your sickness.”. St. Luke 13:12. Arlene L. Dixon Coleman, of Dover, Delaware, departed this life on October 22, 2021. She was 68. She was born on August 9, 1953, to her loving mother, the late Julia L. Dixon and raised by her grandparents, the late Philip and Lillian Dixon. She grew up surrounded by a large, loving family of aunts and uncles. Arlene was a gift of love and was cherished. She loved playing with dolls as a little girl and she was always their “teacher”. As she got older, the dolls were her students in the classroom. Teaching was always what she loved. Upon graduating from Dover High School, she continued her education at Vo-Tech in Woodside, Delaware, majoring in Early Child Care Education. Arlene was employed for over 40 years, at the Dover Education Community Center, retiring in 2019. Arlene accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She grew in her Christian faith, while attending Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Hartly Delaware, with her grandmother, the late Lillian H. Dixon. She was very active in the Young People’s Department (Y.P.D.) and teaching Church School. Later in life, she wanted to be closer to church, so she moved her membership to John Wesley A.M.E.C. Deliverance Center, Dover, Delaware. She was an active member, serving as an usher, member of the Women’s Missionary Society, and Director of the YPD. In addition to her mother and grandparents, Arlene was preceded in death by her stepfathers, Manford Harris and Harold Watson. Cherishing loving memories of Arlene will be left with her son, James R. Dixon (Tanya) of Dover, DE; daughter, Laleta L. LeCompte of Smyrna, DE; six grandchildren, Lathaniel, Radasha, Marissa, Julian, Kayloni and Iyana; two great grandchildren, Iris and Dean; two sisters, Constance Harris-Paino of Augusta, GA and Bron B. Wise (Sam) of Stafford, VA; three uncles, Andrew Sullivan of Havre De Grace, MD, Rev. Walter E. Dixon (Connie) and Harry Dixon (Debbie) both of Dover, DE; two aunts, Charlotte M. Tull of Dover, DE and Bertha Green of Willingboro, NJ; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and her John Wesley Church family who loved her and will miss her.
