Anna Williams

Anna (Ann) Briggs Williams was the second of four siblings born to Joseph Briggs, Sr., and Anna Briggs Moore. She was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on September 20, 1942. She attended Williston High School in Wilmington, and later graduated from Winston Salem State University having achieved her degree in Elementary Education. She taught in several school systems and ultimately retired after 30 years of service in education from Welch Elementary School at Dover Air Force Base. Ann was a longstanding member of Calvary Baptist Church, Dover, Delaware, having joined under the pastoral leadership of the Reverend Scott Jones. She, along with her devoted husband, dedicated their lives to the service of the Lord, and took great pleasure in helping others. Her love for children was evident even in the church, as she spearheaded the creation of the Calvary Baptist Church Nursery, allowing parents the opportunity to worship knowing that their children were being cared for with love and affection under her guidance. She was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Epsilon Iota Omega Chapter, for forty years and wore her pink and green with tremendous pride. Her work in the community almost always revolved around children, as she worked with other members of the sorority in tutoring and enriching the lives of young people. She will be remembered as a loving wife, dedicated daughter and sister, caring mother, doting grandmother and trustworthy friend. She was always content to serve behind the scenes, and her big heart and the strength of her spirit shone through her quiet personality. Those who were fortunate enough to be in her presence would tell you that her smile and laughter could light up a room, and delighted her husband, who was her partner and rock in every endeavor. Ann's heartfelt motto was "if at first you don't succeed, try, try AGAIN." She firmly believed that perfection wasn't necessary, but lack of effort was inexcusable. She instilled that belief both at home and in her professional career. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Briggs, Jr. and Robert Jackson Briggs. The Lord took her home on January 16, 2016 and received Anna B. Williams to her eternal rest. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 48 years, Jethro C. Williams, her mother Anna Briggs Moore, and stepfather, Reverend Aaron Moore, one brother, Wesley Briggs (Sharon) and her beloved children, grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends, many of whom cared for her as she travelled the long road home to be with the Lord.
