Obituary

Tykwan Adrien James, also known as “Tank”, was born on March 30, 1980, to Sheila James and the late Dale Shockley. On July 12, 2020, he entered his final rest, with his mother and oldest daughter, Alexis, by his side at Bayhealth Kent Campus Hospital, in Dover, Delaware.

Tank was a knowledgeable, clever, smart and talented young man who was full of life, with a touching personality that clicked with just about everyone whom he came in contact with. If he wasn’t speaking knowledge to you, he was finding a way to get you to agree with his way of thinking.

Tank received his education at Sussex Central High School, in Georgetown, Delaware, and later received his G.E.D. You would usually find Tank boasting and bragging about his craft and his love for cooking. During Thanksgiving, the brotherly argument would start with Tank letting it be known that he could make the best turkey out of all his mother’s kids. Tank was real crafty with all things he involved himself in. If he wasn’t going to be the top chef, then rapping was definitely going to be his go to. Growing up, sitting outside on the green box, or in the alleyway between the 500 and 600 buildings at Georgetown apartments, Tank would rap for everyone.

In addition to his father, Dale Shockley, Tank was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ellen Shockley; brother, Javar “Duke” James and sister, Ariel Shockley.

The life and legacy of Tykwan will continue and his presence will be felt through the survival of his children, Alexis Harmon, Tykwan “TJ” James, Jr., Tykwan James “Tozz” III and Ty’Ajah James; mother, Sheila James; siblings: Dashon James, Dalneisha Shockley, Maurice James, Wilbert James, Jesse James, Ty’dran James, Leronz Gibbs, Kuiyana Cephas and Darius Deshields; grandmother, Smithie James El; a special love, Tamika Baynard; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and loved ones.
