Obituary

Shirley L. Ware was the youngest child of the late Mabel Lambert and William Rex Boyer. Shirley was born in Warwick, Maryland, on February 3, 1942.

Shirley loved spending quality time with her family, doing things like helping her Mum plant Chrysanthemums out in the garden and picking blackberries with her 8 siblings so their Mum could make her delicious blackberry mush.

Shirley attended and graduated from George Washington Carver High School, in Maryland, in 1960. Two years later, she had her first child, her daughter Wanda Portlock. Shirley and her baby girl moved to New Jersey in 1965. She was united in holy matrimony to the late David Ware, and to this union, David Ware, Jr., was born in 1968. She was a divine and devoted mother to her children.

Shirley worked as a dedicated nursing assistant at Van Dyk Manor in Montclair, New Jersey, until she retired to come back to her family home in Warwick, Maryland, to help take care of her late sister Doris Boyer.

Shirley joined the Rehoboth Apostolic Church in Middletown, Delaware, and became a devoted and faithful member of the church.

Shirley enjoyed shopping, watching her stories, going to church and eating Sunday dinner at her daughter's house with her grandchildren and great grands.

Shirley passed away peacefully on August 10, 2020, the last of 9 children. She was a devoted mother, faithful wife, loving daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother and above all a god-fearing woman who will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel Lambert and William Rex Boyer; sisters, Estella Wimpie, Lillian Boyer, Catherine Cousins, Flora Caulk, Josephine Boyer and Doris Boyer and brothers, Wilmer Boyer and Robert Boyer.

She leaves to mourn her passing, one daughter, Wanda Portlock; one son David Ware Jr; 3 grandchildren, Vanessa Hammond, Tiffany Portlock and Darius Portlock; and 2 great-grandchildren, Ty'airah and Khalil; and a host of nieces and nephews.
