Obituary

Robert “Robbie” Horace Baynard, was born on August 7, 1962. He was the last born to his parents, Robert and Helen Baynard.

He was born and raised in Dover, Delaware, and graduated from Dover High School, in 1980. While in high school, Robbie studied diesel mechanics. He loved to work on the Cherry Picker. He was also a heavy weight wrestler at Dover High School, where he won many matches.

Robbie was born with a birth defect that resulted in many orthopedic surgeries and challenges, like, being placed in a body cast, home schooling and living with one leg shorter than the other. Robbie endured, almost daily, some form of pain, but never complained. He would often joke about his metal hip. Robbie had such a joy for life, that he never let his body pain or limp hinder him from participating in activities and achieving his goal of becoming an ASE Certified Auto Mechanic.

Robbie’s first love was the car that he basically built. He loved to tell everyone about his red EL Camino. Since he was a good auto mechanic, many family members would bring him their vehicles to be fixed. If you asked him to fix your car, he would always fuss, and ask “are you gonna pay me”, but then he would do it. Robbie worked for several years as an auto mechanic and Shop Manager for Malago Tires in Glassboro, New Jersey. When his health began to decline, Robbie moved back to Delaware and started to freelance as an auto mechanic.

Robbie would take time fish and spend time with his family, especially his nephews. If you ever heard Robbie tell a story about his fishing skills, then you all know that Robbie caught “The Big One” over and over again. Robbie was also a master cook. He would have his guys over; nephews Gene and John and his brother-in-law, Bruce. He would cook his famous “Pot” for them, what was in the “Pot”, only Robbie and God knows.

Robbie loved family. He was a big teddy bear to all of his nieces. You could always hear him say “all the kids love Uncle Robbie”. He always came around at Christmas dressed in a Santa Hat, red pants and suspenders just to make the kids smile.

Robbie’s next love was eating. He took pride in being able to eat the most. He loved food and did not play when you picked in his plate. There are so many memories of Robbie and they all end with a laugh or a big smile.

Although Robbie, had older sisters and an older brother, he grew up with nieces/sisters Ethel “Tootie”, Lena “Leny Beny”, nephew/brother, Robert “Chucky” and sister Barbara.

Robbie was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Helen Baynard and his brother, William James Baynard. Shortly after Robbie’s death, his sister, Mary Ellen Williams transitioned as well.

Robbie to leaves to mourn, a special friend, Wanda Norwood; sisters, Myrtle Watkins, Helen Marie Chance and Barbara Mallory (Bruce), a devoted best buddy, Dwayne Boyer; a family adopted sister, Jean Singletary; a Fresh Air Sister, Chandrika Ramsey; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, a host of cousins and friends.
