Martha Ivy Burris Bordley, beloved daughter of the late Myrtle and Lola Deputy Burris, was born on December 13, 1928 in Wyoming, Delaware. She was called home to her eternal rest on June 22, 2020.

Martha grew up in a large family in Wyoming, Delaware and received her formal education through the Kent County school system.

She married the late Amos Bordley and out of that union they had eight children.

Martha and her family moved to New Jersey in 1962. She was employed by Fisher Florist before taking on a job that she loved at Our Lady Residence Nursing Home. After many years of service with them, Martha went on to work as a private duty care giver. She loved taking care of people.

Martha gave her life to the Lord and joined Tabernacle Church of Christ under the leadership of Bishop Otis Grayson until she relocated back to Delaware. She then joined Greater Love Temple Church in Milford, Delaware, under the leadership of her son, the late Bishop Curtis I. Bordley.

Martha loved her family and friends. Her children’s friends called her mom. She was famous for making her strawberry shortcakes with the cake part being made of a flat crust made from scratch. She would host Sunday family dinners, which always included some friends and her children’s friends. For every function, from Thanksgiving to cookouts at the park or at Lake Absegami, you could be sure that there was more than enough food. She also loved horses and friends would bring her miniature horses as gifts. She was loved and will be missed by many.

Preceding Martha in death; were her parents, Myrtle and Lola Burris; husband, Amos Bordley, Sr.; and sons, Bishop Curtis I. Bordley and Leonard Nolas Bordley (Melfrieda).

Martha is survived by her children, Joe Harris (Vicky) of Harrington, DE; Catherine Harvey (Lawrence) of Smyrna, DE; Margie Johnson (Larry) of Atlantic City, NJ; Brenda Johnson (Joseph) of Newtonville, NJ; Amos Bordley of Pleasantville, NJ; Lillie Mae Johnson (Ronald) of Pleasantville, NJ; Denzell (Karen) Bordley of Felton, DE; Ronald Bordley (Deborah) of Felton, DE. Lakisha Bordley of Dover, DE; one daughter-in-law, Louise Bordley; a special niece, Edna Bythwood; 34 grandchildren, two of whom she raised, Curtis L. Bordley and Nannette Bordley-McReynolds; 89 great-grandchildren; 42 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Myrtle Burris (Joan); two sisters, Lola Mae Burris-Williams and Catherine Craig (Lawrence) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
