Obituary

Malcolm Kazanski Bowers, went home to be with the Lord, on June 7, 2020. He was born September 9, 1956, to Teresa Taylor Bowers and Walter O. Bowers. As a young child, and throughout his life, he was always happy and willing to lend a helping hand. He prided himself on being independent and never made excuses for having cerebral palsy or for relying on crutches to ambulate.

He graduated, Class of 1974, from Caesar Rodney High School and went on to obtain a degree in Drafting from Kent County Vocational Tech in 1977. Malcolm had a love for drawing, architect, playing the guitar, listening to his favorite - Jimmy Hendrix and driving his hand-controlled Gremlin. He was also a loyal COWBOYS fan. Even though he was a man of few words, his infectious smile drew in many people, especially kids.

In August of 1979, Malcolm joined Calvary Baptist Church and was baptized the same year. During his time at the church, he sang in the choir and later served as a deacon for many years. Malcolm was so devoted to church that he would get dressed two hours ahead of time. Once he was no longer able to drive, Malcolm would sit on the steps and wait for his mother, Deacon Joe Poe, Deacon Miller or Deacon Larry Fennell to get him to church. Being punctual was vital to him in everyday life and more so for church. He looked forward to and thoroughly enjoyed going home with deacons for Sunday dinners. In the later years, he resided at Silver Lake Nursing Center, but still wanted to maintain his relationship with Calvary. A very special thank you to the Reverends Norman & Cynthia Fields, for ensuring Malcolm was able to attend services. Once the church van was unable to pick him up, his spirits were low, and because of this, he experienced a slight decline in health. While at Silver Lake, he enjoyed sitting near the entrance watching visitors come in and out, looking at the fish tank and going to daily scheduled activities.

Malcolm was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon.

Malcolm  leaves to mourn and cherish his memories, a loving mother, Teresa Bowers; father, Walter O. Bowers (Elaine); only brother, Walter B. Bowers; sisters, Patricia Ward (DE), Jacqueline( GA) and Teresa (DE); six nieces; six nephews; many great nieces and nephews; a host of aunts, uncles family and friends.

He also leaves special friends, Jeanel and Juanita, as well as Willie Mills; the residents  at Silver Lake and longtime aid, Thelma.

To the Bowers Family,
Thinking of and remembering Malcolm in the halls of the Caesar Rodney Senior High School as we, students, sought and found education towards graduation. May Malcolm's soul rest in peace and the family, also, be at peace.

Dear Mrs Bowers,
Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of Malcolm. We will ALWAYS remember his bright, beaming smile and his loving personality. We will cherish the moments we shared together at Silver Lake. And even though he was a Cowboys fan....we still managed to be good friends....except when the games were on of course! Please know you’re in our thoughts and prayers as you grieve for his passing. And we THANK YOU for showing all of us how to properly take care of a loved one during every phase of their life. We hope to carry on his energy and his devoted faith to god and his family.
