Obituary

Lawrence Rodman Gould, Sr., was born in Ridgely, MD on Thursday, March 16, 1933, to the late Olive Geneva Brown Gould and Clarence Elwood Gould, and departed this life peacefully at Arcadia Assisted Living, Denton, MD on August 28, 2020. He was 87 years old.
A lifelong resident of Greensboro, Maryland, Lawrence attended Lockerman High School, Class of 1951. After high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served his country honorably for four years. Upon completion of his active duty tour, he was hired as a sheet metal mechanic at Dover AFB, where he worked as a civilian employee until his retirement in January of 1989. After retirement, Lawrence acquired his commercial driver’s license and became a substitute school bus driver for Caroline County Public Schools, retiring in 2013, after 20 years of service.
Lawrence was well known in the community. He was a member of the Caroline County Branch of the NAACP, the Lockerman Schools Association, Inc., and the American Legion, Mannie Scott Post 193.
Lawrence was a faithful member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church and enjoyed the fellowship with his church family and attending church activities. He was also a member of the former Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee and as President of Coker’s Cemetery Committee. Twice a year, he sponsored an annual church fundraiser and sold turkey and oyster dinners in the fall and held a fish fry in the spring. Lawrence was a member of the United Methodist Men and served as president of the Trustees for the former Ridgely/Marydel Charge and for New Beginnings United Methodist Church.
Lawrence loved his family. He was affectionately called “Moon Man, or Brother Moon” by his son, Andre, and many of his close friends. Holidays, birthdays, and special events were spent with his children and grandchildren. He was there for every milestone in the lives of his family. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his granddaughters, and they often took him on lunch/dinner dates and pampered him with visits to the salon. He shared joys and good times with many of his friends and family.
Practical and no nonsense, Lawrence was a caring individual; he was kind, hospitable, always willing to help and he would offer his support when able, or as needed. He was a very neat and organized man and everything had its place. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed working with his hands, playing a game of solitaire on his computer and watching his favorite team, the Baltimore Orioles, play baseball.
In addition to his wife of 38 years, the late Felechia Sofronia (Smith) Gould, Lawrence was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifton, Charles, Ronald and William Gould and sisters, Calanthia McEachin and Doris Stewart.
Lawrence leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Lawrence Jr. of Annapolis, MD and Andre and his wife Charlene, of Stevensville, MD; one daughter, Patricia, of Annapolis, MD; three granddaughters, Markeshia and Tamara Gould, of Stevensville, MD and Sofronia Gould of Arlington, VA; two sisters, Betty Perkins of Vacaville, CA and Sandra Muldrew of Dover DE; sisters-in law, Beverleyann Gould of Littleton, CO; Jeanette Gould of Fort Washington, MD and Erika Gould of Baltimore, MD; a special friend and companion, Ezola Webb of Preston, MD; godson, Glen Parker, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.

One of the best supervisors I had as a young civilian at the base. Always had a good word and a calmness to him no matter the situation. Rest in Peace Larry.
