Obituary

Alice Marie, sometimes known as, “Jackie” or “Snoop” Sample, of Seaford, Delaware, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, in Seaford, Delaware. She was 74. Jackie was born on Saturday, September 9, 1944, in the Valley of Concord, Seaford, Delaware, to the late Alma Marie Bolden Pauls and Freddie Deshields.

Jackie attended Frederick Douglass School and later obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) License from Delaware Technical and Community College. Jackie was a dedicated employee at the Stockley Center, where she worked as a CNA for many years and later retired in 2010.

Jackie was full of life and loved her family. She was a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, in Seaford, Delaware. She hardly missed a Sunday and raised all her grandchildren in the church. Jackie’s purpose was to serve and to help others, which she took great pleasure in doing so. She had an infectious smile, kind heart and a warm personality. She helped in so many ways within the church and within her family, but you wouldn’t even know, because she never complained and, in her mind, “That’s what family is for and that’s what we are supposed to do”. Jackie was always about keeping her family together. In her free time, she would enjoy fishing, volunteering and attending family and church functions.

Jackie was preceded in death by her siblings, Shirley Pauls, James Pauls, Ronald Pauls, Blanche Pauls Johnson, and Eula Pauls; and best friend, Verdie Page Burris.

Jackie is survived by one child, daughter, Joyce Dixon of Seaford; five sisters, Hazel Deshields of Dover, DE, Christine Sampson of Bridgeville, DE, Russine Handy of Camden, NJ, Sarah Handy of Camden, NJ and Darlene Banks of Georgetown, DE; five brothers, Donald Pauls of Seaford, DE, Shellie “Pee Wee” Pauls of Seaford, DE, Richmond “J” Pauls of Little Falls, NJ, Anthony Deshields of Federalsburg, MD and Robert Williams of Millsboro, DE; one brother-in- law, Alfred Johnson of Seaford, DE; her grandchildren whom she had a pleasure in raising, Damien Height, Jackee’ Pauls, Demetriuce Height, Khadijra Height, Sharima Height and Stephanie Dixon; four great-grandchildren, Juliana Charles, Kyrie Williamson, Jeremiah Youmens and Kabrea’ Williamson; uncle, Randolph Deshields; aunt, Shirley Tingle; a special nephew, Rodney ‘Puff’ Jenkins; great aunt, Olive “Puddin” Alston; best friends, Cecelia Scantling and Kathy Parker Young; the United Methodist Women of John Wesley United Methodist Church; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Rest in Heaven, Snoop. We know God does not make any mistakes. You will be truly missed.
