Obituary

Elmer E. Hampton Jr., was born June 17, 1940, in Smyrna, Delaware. He was the son of the late Elmer E. Hampton, Sr., and Blanch Hampton. Elmer departed this life, at home, peacefully on July 12, 2020.

Elmer attended school at Booker T. Washington and William Henry Comprehensive High School. He was united in holy matrimony to Vivian Combs on November 25,1967. Elmer was employed by the City of Dover for 20 years.

Elmer was a member of St. John's Holy Church in Hartly, Delaware, under the leadership of Elder Hazel Williams, Elder James O. Combs, and currently Elder Ronald Morris, where he served as a Deacon.

Elmer loved quartet music and often enjoyed concerts of his favorite groups. One of his favorite pastimes was rebuilding engine motors.

In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Walter, and James Hampton; one sister, Nancy Hampton and one grandson, Jermaine Upshaw.

Elmer leaves to mourn his loss, a devoted wife, Vivian Hampton; one son, Richard Combs (Donna) of Ozark, AL; three daughters, Sheresia Williams (Angelo), Dawn Bowden (Lawrence) and Tasha Hampton (Roy) of Dover, DE; eight grandchildren, Tremaine, Donte, Trenton, DiAndre, Jasmine, Alisha, Jordan and Duane; five great-grandchildren, Jazzlynn, Jalil, Tieren, Jae'vion and Amyla; two brothers, Elwood Hampton (Maryann) and Harry Hampton of Dover, DE; three sisters, Betty Combs and Nickolina Hampton of Dover, DE and Ina Hawkins (Carroll) of Rock Hall, MD; two brothers-in-law, William Combs (Dorothy) and Frederick Combs (Lorraine); one sister-in-law, Elsie Combs; two goddaughters, Bern’Ardine Weldon and Kimberly Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his St. John’s Church family.
