Obituary

Our God looked down on Friday, November 13, 2020, and called one of his children home. Donald Brown Scholfield, was born September 4, 1933, to the late Deacon Taylor Schoefield and Pauline C. Hall Schoefield, in Ridgeway, VA. Donald graduated from Albert Harris High School in 1951, and shortly after, enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF). He was a mason while in the Air Force and traveled the world. He retired from Dover Air Force Base, Dover, DE, after serving twenty-six years as a Master Sergeant. He then worked for Sears and Roebuck until he retired again. Don later became a community activist and leader for the Capital Park community. He worked tirelessly in keeping the people of his community safe. His caring heart was his trademark. He attended Calvary Church in Dover, DE, under the leadership of Pastor Koon.

Donald was preceded in death by a son, Francis Lamont Scholfield; two sisters, Willie Mae Pettie and Dora Schoefield; and three brothers, Joseph Schoefield, Lewis Wade and Clyde Schoefield.

Donald leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Elizabeth Scholfield, who enjoyed their matrimony of thirteen years; his children, Donald N. Scholfield (Mary) and Ronald N. Scholfield, both of Philadelphia, PA, Nadine L. Scholfield Fayetteville, NC, Althia M. White (Arthur) Durham, NC, Kimberly S. Giles (Arnella) San Diego, CA and Phalton Flunder (Sabine) Germany; step-daughter, Tanya Regan (Neil) Ocoee, FL; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vina Ophelia Schoefield and Marilyn Schoefield of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Taylor Nathaniel Schofield (Josephine) Chesapeake, VA and Sandy Schoefield (Naomi) Durham, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

In Donald, we see a life well-lived, family, friends, and strangers,
well-served, and we are encouraged by his examples of Christ’s love. Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:1-3

Mrs. Schofield & Family:
The Austin family will long remember Donald. Donald traveled with me several times to assist me with taking care of mother and other family business. On those drives, I learned that he was deeply spiritual, a strong family oriented man and a dedicated husband. Donald was instrumental in working with me and others in the Capital Park community to create the partnership that constructed the Delaware State—Capital Park Community Center. He loved his community and worked diligently to enhance and improve it for all residents.
Finally, when I experienced a health care crisis, Donald was one of three close friends who committed to staying with me—in my home—12 hours, two days a week for three months. Donald Scofield was a good man. I was blessed that he was my good friend.
