Y'Corie LaShenda Blackwell

On Tuesday, March 14, 2017, the Lord sent His dear angels to escort Y’Corie Lashenda Singleton Blackwell to her heavenly home! Y’Corie (affectionately known as “Corie”) was the daughter of Catherine Brown and the Late Charles Lee Singleton. Y’Corie was born on April 13, 1978, in Pahokee, Florida. She was raised in Belle Glade, Florida, where she was known throughout her neighborhood. There she attended Glades Central High School. Following high school, Y’Corie settled in Dover, Delaware. Striving for more, she completed nursing certification classes, becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. Y’Corie Singleton united in marriage with Darryl Blackwell on October 30, 2004, becoming Mrs. Y’Corie Blackwell. With this “new walk” of life, there became a “new talk”. From her lips, she had become the self-proclaimed “Queen YB;” what a definite queen was she! She was confident and unapologetically herself. Y’Corie was also very protective concerning those she loved. Her genuine expressions of love were continual and countless. It’s no wonder why her favorite color was purple, which symbolizes royalty. Being set apart by God, the character that Y’Corie showed was representative of royal status. And what cannot be forgotten, noted a phrase she often stated, is that Y’Corie will forever be “Sexy as Always!” Y’Corie was preceded in death by her father, Charles Lee Singleton; God-mother, Autrie Williams; grandmothers, Mary Knowles and Irene McLeish; Great-grandmother, Catherine Giddens; her children, Micah Blackwell and Daisey Kay Blackwell; and brother, Jermaine McLeish. She leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories: her husband, Darryl Blackwell; children, James Singleton, Darius Blackwell, Danny Blackwell, Darryl Blackwell, James Blackwell, Dontreze Blackwell, Zhamel Blackwell, Deja Blackwell, and Darren Blackwell; mother Catherine Brown,; siblings, Vaneseia Singleton, Nekia Singleton, Danny Brown Jr and Danneshia Brown; God-father- Eddie Williams; God-siblings- Sam Rowley, Jacquette Oliver, Earl Moore, Tony Moore, Tabatha Williams-McAllister and Deneka Williams-Fuller; grandfather, Cleveland Knowles Sr.; grandson, Jeremiah Singleton; niece, Ke’Asia Singleton; nephews, Daniel Singleton, Christopher Smith, Dontay Peterkin Jr., and Kaden Singleton; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Y’Corie, along with her joyous singing, will be missed. We can take comfort in imagining Y’Corie uttering the words written in Psalms 3:25 – 26.“Whom have I in heaven, but you?
