Woodrow Brown

Woodrow was born on August 13, 1938 in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Robert and Mary Lou (Williams) Brown and raised by his loving grandmother, Mrs. Carrie Williams Brown Brinkley. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Brown, Jr. and nephew, Bertram Brown. He attended public schools in Wilmington and then North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC where he met his wife. Woodrow eventually settled in White Plains, NY where he started Parkway Home Services Maintenance Corporation in 1972. He and Helen ran the company for over 35 years. When he was not working, Woody was an avid boater and fisherman; he fished from Salem, MA to Emerald Isle, NC. His favorite fishing spot was Oyster Bay, Long Island where he spent many weekends with his family. In addition to serving as a member of the Greenburgh Auxiliary Police, Woodrow found time to sit on the local school board and to be a community activist. In 2005, Woody and Helen retired to Delaware in search of a quieter lifestyle. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he was a member of the trustee board and a member of three choirs. He attended church regularly until illness prevented him from doing so. In retirement, he continued fishing, travelled extensively and became an avid carver of decoys under the tutelage of Douglas Gibson; he showed his work at numerous waterfowl festivals. In addition, he volunteered with the money management program for the state of Delaware and at the Milford Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen; two children, Derrick of Honolulu, HI and Lesley (Maclonza) Lee of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren, Amber of White Plains, NY and Malik of Honolulu, HI; brother, Cleveland (Joyce) Brown of White Plains; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Claudine) Bailey of NY and James (Evelyn) Bailey of NY; sisters-in-law, Edith Bailey of NC and Beverly Herbert of CT; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Woodrow will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, the world’s greatest daddy and grandpa and a most wonderful friend and relative.
