William Thomas Nichols

William Thomas Nichols, affectionately known as “Billy” or “Slick” by his family and close friends, was born on September 4, 1941. He was the son of the late George Thomas and the late Beatrice Alberta Nichols of Harrington, Delaware. He was preceded in death also by his brother, Reginald Collick; his sister, Elenora Scott and his daughter, Ericka Wilson. He departed this life on Monday, April 8, 2019 at Christiana Hospital. He was 77 years old. William received his education at Pierre S. Dupont Elementary School in Harrington, Delaware and then went on to attend William Henry High School in Dover, Delaware. On September 30, 1960, he married the love of his life, Claudette Virginia Seth and together they had four beautiful children; one son and three daughters. They were married for 57 years. William worked most of his life as a farm hand and later for the Caroline County School District as a custodian. After retiring, he and his brother, Ray Nichols operated a small janitorial company and were contracted with Allen Family Foods for a few years. William was a very quiet, soft-spoken individual who did not complain and very much a family man. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, farming and gardening. His passion was tinkering on cars, motorcycles, lawnmowers and anything else that had an engine. He also enjoyed animals and always had dogs around the house. Another joy of his was pitching horse shoes with friends and family. Most of all, he loved visiting each of his siblings early on Sunday mornings. He would go from house to house just to check in. He also loved getting together with his brothers to watch boxing and wrestling. William was a giving person and would help out anyone in his path. Speaking of paths, he would always throw his hands up to any vehicle he met on the highway. He always made sure that the children got plenty to eat. Sometimes his wife would fuss that “the kids have already eaten” and he would simply reply, ”let them have it.” William joined the Mt. Carmel Seventh Day Adventist Church in Harrington, Delaware until his sickness. Later, he transferred his membership to the Denton Church of Free Seventh-day Adventists in Denton, Maryland, where he recommitted himself to Christ during the latter stages of his illness. William leaves to mourn his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Claudette Virginia Nichols; one son, Terrence D. Nichols (Denise) of Felton, DE; two daughters, Lorinda Smith “Rinny” of Felton, DE and Kittina Coursey (Anthony) of Denton, MD; four grandchildren, Latasha Daniels (Thomas), Terrence L. Nichols, Anthony Rich, Jr. (Crystal) and William Wilson, III (Shantaye); seven great-grandchildren, Tashrya Scott, Rashad Wilson, DaeQuan Wilson, Samaiyah Wilson, Marshawn Wilson, Xavier Gregory and Kanye Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews. cousins and friends, He also leaves to cherish his memory a special friend and caregiver, Nakeisha Cephas.
