William Ray Dickerson

Obituary William Ray Dickerson, (also known as “Ray” and “Perry”), was born to the late Virgie and James Dickerson on January 13, 1929 in Horntown, Virginia. He peacefully departed this life on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Peak Healthcare in Pocomoke City, Maryland. Ray was educated in the Accomack County public school system. Although he did not attend church regularly, he knew the Bible well. He was married to the former Esther Marie Collins. Six children were born of this union: Carolyn, William (Billy), Curtis (Curt), Michael (Mickey), Leona (Annette) and Terrie. Victoria (Ann) Mills is his eldest child. Throughout Ray’s life, he was a laborer, working in various fields. Those included, but were not limited to, P&L Poultry (Golden Pride) and Mountaire Poultry, from which he retired, as well as being a wood cutter and cutting grass for Butch Gray. In his spare time, Ray truly loved watching his beloved Westerns on television, listening to Oldies But Goodies on the radio, smoking cigars and his pipe, chewing tobacco and spending fun times with his friends. Ray loved dancing and joking with his buddies and also loved his trucks. He would have them so clean that when you got in, you would slide from one side to the other from the wax on the seats. Cherished memories of Ray’s life will remain with: his wife of sixty (60) years, Esther Marie Dickerson; all of his children who loved him but his dedicated and loyal daily caregivers were Terrie (Jeff) Feddiman and Curt Dickerson, all of Pocomoke City, Maryland, Annette Dickerson of District Heights, Maryland, Billy (Bessie) Dickerson of Salisbury, Maryland, Mickey (Valerie) Dickerson of Morrow, Georgia, Carolyn Haley of District Heights, Maryland and Victoria Mills of Snow Hill, Maryland; eleven (11) grandchildren, Tonya (whom he affectionately called Tiny), Terrell, Tanyette, Toi, Ryan, Javon, Alicia, Kirsten, Kashmere, Mike, Jr. and Darius; two sisters, Beulah Wallop and Hazel Marshall, both of Horntown, Virginia; one brother, J.C. Lankford of Pocomoke, Maryland; one brother-in-law, Earl Marshall of Horntown, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Joan Walker of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania a very special hospice nurse, Tess and her aide Deanna and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Virgie and James Dickerson, Ray was preceded in death by six sisters—Holland, Mary, Irene, Edna, Lois and Doris and four brothers—Clarence, Dover, John and Walt.
