William P. Briggs Sr.

William Percell Briggs, Sr, son of the late Olin W. Briggs, Sr. and Magdalene Johnson Briggs was born in Federalsburg, MD, on June 7, 1937 and departed this life on Sunday, November 23, 2014 in Seaford, DE at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. On May 6, 1963, he married the love of his life, Gladys Palmer and to this union they had 6 children; Jacqueline, Darryl, LuAnn, Jean, Kiki, and Stoney. Then they adopted Brenda Hooper, Virginia Gomez-Robinson, Kirby Briggs and Dave Philmore. They were married for 51 years. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jacqueline Briggs Johnson, his son, Darryl Briggs, brothers, Kirby Briggs and Olin Briggs, Jr, sister, Mary Alverta Briggs, in-laws: Tyronne West, Argen Sample, Jr and friend, Leon Waters. “Skip”, as he was so fondly called, received his education from Lockerman High School in Denton, MD. Upon leaving high school, he entered the United States Air Force. After returning home, he began working for the DuPont nylon plant in Seaford, DE. He retired from DuPont after 29 years. Then he went to work at Del Tech Community College as transportation specialist. He loved shooting pool, hunting, fishing, playing cards with friends, telling jokes, singing with the Men’s Choir of Mt. Calvary, watching his favorite team the Oakland Raiders, spending time with the grandkids and spending time with mom Cora Washington and Leona. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Gladys Briggs; children, LuAnn Holden (Sherard), Jean Briggs, Kiamishia”Kiki”Briggs-Dickerson (Dale), William “Stoney” Briggs, Jr (Stephanie), Chanelle Evans (Vince), Brenda Hooper, and Virginia Robinson (Ricky); grandchildren, DeShaun Scott, Devon Briggs, Londrae’ Briggs, Michael Briggs, Jeron Johnson, Kyle Kellam, Tahjee Briggs, Sakai Briggs, Shareef Briggs, Jezet Johnson, Javon Johnson, Christoper Kilgoe, Eboni Kilgoe, India Thomas, Terrance Gomez, Cuartney Tingle, and Rik’kel Robinson; adopted son, Dave Philmore; brother, Gordon Briggs; sisters, Beatrice Murphy (William) of Massachusetts, Hazel Cornish (Larry) and Eva Briggs of Cambridge; aunt, Florence Simms (George); uncles, Namon Palmer, and Julius Littlejohn; in-laws, John Johnson, Vernon Roberts (Esther), Orlando Palmer (Gloria), Diane Drayton (Alfred), Martin West (Vanee), Myron West, William West (Maria), Cornelius West (Diane), Correne Ross (Linwood), Forrest West (Timah), Joanne West (Wayne), Josephine Drayton (Layton), Kim West, Drayna West, Eva D.
