Walter Thomas Townsend

Walter Thomas Townsend, beloved son of the late Mannon Townsend and Ella Tull Townsend, was born on July 26, 1924 in Horntown, Virginia A merciful and loving God gently guided him home on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Aurora Senior Living of Manokin in Princess Anne, Maryland. Other than his parents he was also preceded in death by a devoted and living friend Magery Tull ; brother, John Lee Townsend; sister, Hattie Lewis . Walter, who was affectionately known as ‘’Cooke’’ or ‘’Buddy’’, received his general education in the Public Schools of Accomack Country, and attended Tabernacle Baptist Church, Horntown, Virginia. He also relocated to Pocomoke, Maryland at an early age. Walter retired from Perdue Farms in Accomac, Virginia where he was employed as a truck driver for a number of years. Truck driving was an utmost passion of his and he often talked about his trucking adventures and how he was to get from point A to point B with limited education. Prior to being hospitalized and having to go to Aurora Senior Living he resided at Newtown Apartments in Pocomoke, Maryland. Even when his health was declining and he was told that he would be unable to return to his apartment at Newtown, he still dared anyone to move into his apartment. He truly loved his stay at Newtown, and the friendship that he acquired while living there. He was certainty one of great resilience. Walter also loved his family and friends, up until the end he would regularly ask ‘’ Have you talked to ‘’BigHead’’ meaning Connell. He would ask ‘’How’s everyone down home doing’’. He remained himself, giving orders, smiling joking until god called him peacefully home. Fond memories will be cherished by; one son, Conell Lankford, (Renee) Hangerstown, Maryland; one granddaughter , Whitney Lankford, Alanta, Georgia; three brothers, James Townsend, (Catherine), Alan antic, Virginia, Georgia; six sisters , Pearl Pitts, Millsboro, Delaware, Annie Mae Jenkins, Bridgeville; Delaware, Lillie Davis, Althea Fosque and Hazel Marshall (Earl), Horntown, Virginia. Roxie Morris (Calvin) of Wattsville, Virginia and a host of nieces, and nephews and other family and friends.
