Verdie Page Burris

Verdie P. Burris of Seaford, Delaware departed this life on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, with her family at her side. She passed away, after a short illness, at the age of 77. Verdie was born Friday, March 15, 1940, to the late Clifton Mouzon of Pennsylvania, and Nather Lee Page of Delaware, in Cades, South Carolina. Vertie was educated at Mace's Lane Elementary School in Cambridge, Maryland; Frederick Douglass School in Seaford, Delaware; William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown, Delaware; Delaware State College in Dover, Delaware and then Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown, Delaware. She worked through Community Action Daycare Center in Laurel, Delaware; Delmarva Rural Ministries in Dover, Delaware; and the Seaford School District in Seaford, Delaware. Sister Verdie was a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Seaford, Delaware. She served for many years wherever she was needed. She wore many hats; serving The Most High God as a Sunday School Teacher, former president of the Usher Board, a dedicated member for 50 plus years and helping with the Junior Ushers. She was a member of the Finance Committee, Trustee Board, the United Methodist Women, and attended Bible Study and was a Lay Servant. She was a member of the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association (ICUA) of Delaware. Verdie loved to pray and everyone in her presence had to participate with her in prayer. Her favorite song was, "His Eye Is On The Sparrow", that she insisted her grandson, Derek, sing every time he was present at church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Wilhemina Reed of Pennsylvania, three stepchildren: Orlanda Burris, Camilla Williams and Lauren Burris. Verdie leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Antonia Akins of Seaford, Delaware and Franvia Page, her caregiver, of Seaford, Delaware; five step-children, Calvin Burris of Houston, Delaware, Bryant Burris of Felton, Delaware, Stanley Burris of Williamsburg, Virginia, Sheila Moore of Felton, Delaware and Catherine Bynum of Felton, Delaware. six grandchildren, Comar Page, Derek Page, Tre'shon Page, Leah Cannon, James Ponder and Verstel Ponder; ten great grandchildren, Daisa Page, Kainoa Page, Alisa Page, Comari Page, Nadia Page, Olivia Hearn, Cameryn Page, Aubrey Page, Tre'shon Page, Jr., Natalia Page, one sister, Leona Jones; and one brother, Joe Mouzon; two godsons, Martin Hitchens of New Jersey, and William Satchell of Maryland. Verdie also leaves to mourn her loss, special friends, Jackie Sample, Regina Batson, Clementine Parker, Elaine Grice; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives who were near and dear to her heart.
