Vandola Collins

Vandola Sadonia Cannon Collins was born on February 1, 1946 to the late James Cannon, Sr. and the late Sadonia Cannon Brown. She departed this life on August 10, 2015 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes DE at the age of 69 after a brief illness. She received her early childhood education in the Seaford School District-Frederick Douglass School and later at the former William C. Jason High School (now Delaware Technical College) in Georgetown, DE. She was married to the late Edward Collins, Jr. and born to this union were two sons, Edwin Collins and Vance Collins. She also helped to raise Edward Gibbs, Brenda Gibbs, Debbie Gibbs, Michael Gibbs, Raymond Gibbs, Annette Gibbs, and Jacqueline Gibbs. She loved her family very much. She was employed by Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE for little over 30 years and recently at Peachtree Acres in Harbeson, DE until her failing health. She was member of Georgetown AARP. She was a faithful member of the Booker Street Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Marvin Morris. She was a true Woman of God who loved singing and praising God in Church, or wherever she went. She loved her church and church family, serving faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Usher Board President, Women's Discipleship, Choir Director, Musician, Women's Day Music Committee, Church Clerk, Pastor's Aide President and Praise and Worship Team Member. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Sr. and Sadonia Cannon. Her loving memories will be forever cherished by her family, the community church family, AARP Family and friends; her sons, Edwin Collins of Hopewell, VA and Vance (Melissa) Collins of Georgetown, DE; a grandson she raised, Vance Mann; great-grandson, Amari Mann; great-granddaughter, Samijah Cephas. Edward, Brenda, Michael, Debbie, Raymond, Annette and Jacqueline Gibbs; grandchildren: Kimwuan, Lerons, Wallisha, Kiairra, Rayshaun, Edwaun, Vonkisha, Dontray , Shakia, Tracy, and Jacoy; god-children; Kaneisha and Jamel Trott and Rodrick Morris; brother, James (Debra) Cannon, Jr. of Milford, DE; sister, Arlene Russ of Seaford, DE; brothers-in-law, Melvin (Charlotte) Collins, Sr. and Reles Banks; sisters-in-law, Emily (Anthony) Savage and Lucille Banks; riding partners, Peggy Trott, Betty Porter; April Fillyau, who was like a daughter; and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
