Tyrone Cornell Holmes

Tyrone’s Obituary Tyrone Cornell Holmes transitioned from his earthly home on January 6, 2026 (at his home). Tyrone was born on July 19, 1950 in Goldsboro, Maryland to the late Roberta Johnson Holmes and Paul L. Holmes Sr. He was affectionately known as Mr. Holmes, Ty, and Roni. Tyrone was educated in the Caroline County Public School system and graduated from Colonel Richardson High School in 1968. Upon graduation from high school, he attended and graduated from Morgan State College (now University). After graduating from college, he became an art teacher at North Caroline High School, a career that lasted over 40 years. (Even after retiring from teaching art, he became a dependable substitute teacher and continued to do so even though his health was in decline.) He was dedicated and committed to his students and to North Caroline High School. During the school’s summer breaks, he was employed as a part-time Park Ranger at Tuckahoe State Park, and he also worked for Harrington Nursery for many years. He loved to cook and cooked at Curtis Andrew’s Auction at American Corner and regularly cooked and served breakfast at the Community Center in Federalsburg, MD (Another organization to which he was devoted.) On September 16, 1972, Tyrone married his high school sweetheart Jacqueline Stanley. He was deeply devoted to her until his death. Together, they had one child, Troy Vonlyn Holmes. He was so proud and was deeply committed to his family, his neighbors, his community, and especially, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He exuded pure joy when talking about them. Tyrone was well known in the community. He loved to help people. You could find him cooking full meals (dessert included) on a regular basis for the elderly in the community. If you had a celebration/event coming up, he would jump right in to help using his brilliant art skills to take the celebration over the top! He was gifted! He always went above and beyond, and would love to see the smile on your face as he would describe with you the process of how he came up with a unique design just with your occasion in mind. He had a heart of gold and was willing to help and give anything to those in need. Tyrone was proceeded in death by his parents; Paul and Roberta Holmes; his sister, Goldie Holmes and his beloved grandmother, Goldie Johnson. Tyrone leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Jacqueline V. Stanley Holmes, one son Troy Vonlyn Holmes, two grandsons, Jaylen and Juwan Holmes, brother Paul, L. Holmes, Jr, (Barbara), Elton Holmes (Karen), Paulette M. Holmes (Leon) and Vanessa M. Holmes, four great-grandchildren Bryson Holmes, Lailyn Holmes, Juel Holmes, and Juwan Holmes, Jr, and a host of cousins nieces, nephews, aunt, uncle and a very dear friend, Mary Ann Cantrell. Special Note of Thanks: We wish to have a special thank you to North Caroline High school, faculty, teachers and the Board of Education for allowing us to have his memorial service here. Truly, this was the perfect place as was devoted to North Caroline as this was his second home. And to his sister-in-law, Barbara Holmes who dutifully cared for him during his illness.
