Theodore Gumby

Theodore Sherwood Gumby, Jr., the beloved son of the late Theodore S. Gumby Sr. and Marcelline Gumby, was born on January 12, 1959 in Pocomoke City Maryland. He was often called by family & friends “Theo”, “Teddy”, “Gumby” and “Teddy Bear”. He quietly departed this life on Saturday September 12, 2015 in Millington, Tennessee. Theodore was educated in the Worcester County public school system, graduating from Pocomoke High School in 1977. Theodore had been employed at McDonald’s and McCready Memorial Hospital, in Crisfield Maryland. From childhood to young adult he had been a member of St. John AME Church in Pocomoke City, Maryland. Theodore loved the outdoors, and did not stay in one place for very long. One of his favorite thinking spots was at the wharf in Crisfield, MD where he would go and sit for hours on end. He always challenged his nephews by playing football and basketball with them and later needing their help to walk because of his stiff joints. He always made a friend where ever he went and was known by many. Taking pictures, cooking and fishing were some of his passions that he loved to do. On February 29, 2012 Theodore married his soul mate, the love of his life Rachel Williams. From that union their daughter, Brianna Lee Ann Gumby, was born. His three daughters were his pride and joy and he would always go above and beyond to provide whatever they asked of him. They brought such joy to his life, and they had him wrapped around their fingers. Left to cherish his memories are: his wife Rachel W. Gumby of Millington, TN; three daughters, Theonna and Layana Gumby, both of Princess Anne, MD and Brianna Gumby of Millington, TN; one brother Keith Gumby of Salisbury, MD; two sisters, Cynthia Cutler and Orlean Gumby, both of Princess Anne, MD; a father-in-law Richard Williams of Millington, TN, one brother-in-law Richard (Mitzie) Williams, Jr. of Millington, TN; two sisters-in-law, Yolanda (Vincent) Galloway and Shazet (Carl) Knowles, all of California; three aunts, Elsie Mae Waters, Mable Matthews, and Mamie Gumby, all of Pocomoke City, MD; two nephews, Orlando Duffy and Kelvin Gumby; two nieces, Tylisha Cutler-Jones and Adrianne (Tony) Henley; 8 great nephews; 3 great nieces and a host of cousins and friends. A special cousin and two best friends who were like brothers to him were Craig Gumby, Sr. of Eden, MD, Robert Waters of Salisbury, MD, and Charles Palmer of Pocomoke, MD. Preceding him in death were his father Theodore S. Gumby, paternal grandparents Moses and Elsie Gumby, maternal grandparents Littleton and Nettie Potter, a nephew Montez Brittingham, ten uncles, James, Lorenzo, Edward, Elwood, John, Ora Lee, and Preston Potter, Gentry Waters, Samuel and Edward Gumby, and Hampton Matthews.
