Thelma Louise "Cookie" Mercado (Brooks)

Thelma Louise Brooks Mercado, affectionately known as “Cookie”, was born on December 27, 1957, in Easton, Maryland, to the late Dorothy Louise Brooks and the late Charles Brooks, Sr. She peacefully departed this life on May 4, 2019, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. Sister Mercado was educated in the Caroline County Public School System. She has dabbled in many ventures throughout the years. She was once a licensed cosmetologist; she had her own business as a daycare provider for many years; she was a foster parent to many kids; she also worked as a home healthcare nurse. In her spare time, she liked to shop, ride around, go out to eat, go to church and entertain her family and friends with big dinners. Those big dinners were not complete without her famous potato salad or sweet potato pies. In addition to all of that, she loved to read books. She carried a book everywhere she went. She even upgraded to a tablet and pulled it out everywhere she went. Sister Mercado LOVED the Lord. She attended the Greater Full Gospel Church of God, under the leadership of pastor Bishop Cephas, since she was 19 years old. She was a dedicated member of the Usher Board and kitchen staff. It was no secret that Sis Mercado was a bona fide prayer warrior. When she prayed and called on the name of Jesus, she could be heard from a distance away. She lived a full & joyful life and she will be thoroughly missed! Sister Mercado was preceded in death by her father, Charles Brooks, Sr.; mother, Dorothy Louise Brooks; grandparents, Howard & Sarah Brooks, Clifton Stanford & Dorothy Holmes; brother, Charles Brooks, Jr.; granddaughter, Jada B. Warner; and daughter, Roshonda Warner. Thelma leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Heriberto Mercado; daughter, Michelle Brooks, Seaford, DE; sons, Roy Warner (Crystal), Felton, DE, Justin Warner (Natasha), Seaford, DE, and Dion Warner (Natasha), Georgetown, DE; sisters, Barbara Brooks (Tim), Bridgeville, DE, Pauline Brooks, Federalsburg, MD, and Donna Brooks, District Heights, MD; brothers, Carl Brooks, Sr. (Janice), Spring Hill, Florida, Phillip Brooks (Myra), Denton, MD, & James “Jimmy” Brooks (Maria), Jonesboro, Georgia; one aunt, Barbara Roland (David), Dover DE; 35 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Lucretia Nixon; her church family including Church Mother, Margaret Cephas; special sisters, Tomeka Crawford, Dover, DE and Charlene Sanders, Bridgeville, DE; and an abundance of friends whom loved her dearly.
