Terry Simms

Her Story Terry Laurice Simms was born on March 11, 1959 at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge, MD. She departed this life on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at her family’s homeplace in Hurlock, MD at the age of sixty-five (65). Terry was the eldest child and only daughter of the late Marie Odessa Conway Simms and Alonzo “Biggie” Simms, both previously of Federalsburg, MD. Terry was the apple of her daddy’s eye and best friend and riding partner to her mother. She took great pride in loving her parents, caring for them and leading the family pack in their honor. Terry was a pillar for her family, providing a safe haven for them when in need. Terry received her education in the Dorchester County Public Schools. She continued her education at Chesapeake Community College where she obtained her GED and several other certifications. For several years, Terry worked at Airpax in Cambridge, MD. Through hard work and much needed grit, Terry fulfilled her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. She owned and operated her own home-based daycare center. She worked several jobs, however, working at the Dorchester County Health Department with her cousin, Normalee, brought her great joy. Alongside her brothers in their early ages, they sang together as “The Original Gospel Travelier’s” at UM Church in Hurlock, MD. Terry heeded the spirit call as a young adult and was baptized in Jesus’ name and received the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in other tongues as the scriptures say, at Ivy Town Apostolic Church. As a faithful member to the church and God, she opened her home for the church to have service in the backyard until Mission Hill Church would later be established. Terry served as an usher on her post and member of the Pastor’s Aide Committee. Later in Terry’s life, she enjoyed worshiping and praising the Lord at New Life Apostolic Church in Salisbury, MD. Terry enjoyed cooking (her candied yams are second-to-none), exotic foods, and nice cold cut or wings accompanied by Diet Pepsi or Diet Sprite Zero. She loved dressing and wearing hats and coordinating her Sunday’s best outfits. Terry was well-traveled and enjoyed exploring Super Walmart from time to time. Terry’s most treasured life event was delivering her twin boys and the following year delivering another healthy boy on the same day. The trio was later known as the Hebrew Boys, yet to her they will forever be “My boys.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Marie Simms, paternal grandparents, Nobel and Eleanor Simms, maternal grandparents, Henry C. Powell and Sara Conway, “MaHattie” aka Nannie Hattie Conway Coleman and her beloved aunt, Pauline Cannon-Payton. She leaves to mourn: her loving three sons, Charles H. (fiancé Shineata) Simms of Hurlock, MD and Terrance M. Simms, Sr. and Jeremiah D. (Kia) Simms, both of Cambridge, MD; twelve (12) grandchildren, Kyron, Kailee, Darrius, Kamarion, My’Khi, Na’leyah, Dajoura, Terrance, Jr., JaChune, Jadian, Ja’Miah and Journey; three bonus grandchildren, A’nayah, Flamond, Jr. and Ty’lea; four brothers, Derek L. Simms and Andre Simms, both of Cambridge, MD, Kendall Simms of Hurlock, MD and Jeffrey Simms of Cambridge, MD; a dear friend, Debbie Newcomb; a forever sister, Lydia Roberts and host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, church family and friends.
