Sylvia M. Sparks

A Time To Love: United in Holy Matrimony with Kenneth R. Sparks on November 23, 1956 for 54 years and from this union they were blessed with four sons: Kenneth Sparks, Marlon Sparks, Barry Sparks and the transitioned Gregory Sparks as well as two daughters, Tina and Tara Sparks. A Time To Live: Sylvia enjoyed life to it's fullest, always extending Godly love to all she came in contact with. She graduated from Henry Highland Gamett in 1954 as Valedictorian of her class. Sylvia was a steadfast woman of dignity, employed by the Campbell Soup Company for 31 years, Sawyer Catering Services and catering for private families for 40 years and Kent County Health Department for 12 years. Sylvia would glorify her God in every aspect of her life, good or bad and wasn't ashamed to express her love, trust and dedication to Him. A Time To Laugh: Family gatherings and visits were her greatest joy. She always enjoyed cooking for others and having a house full of people. Helping others in any way she could was her passion even in the midst of her own storms she would bless others. Family meant everything to her and she meant everything to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, she had great joy when she was surrounded by them in the family home. A Time To Weep: Proceeded in death by her father, Howard Walley, her mother Helen Cann Walley, husband. Kenneth R. Sparks, son, Gregory Sparks and Granddaughter Tiara Alsup. A Time To Build Up: The kingdom of God, Sylvia was a faithful and active member of Bethel AME Church for over 40 years, a dedicated member of the Missionary, Stewards, Mass Choir, Bethelites, Helping Hands and Culinary committees. A dedicated member of the 100 Voice Choir, C.A.T.S Team and Henry Highland Garnett Alumni. A Time To Mourn: To cherish her life and legacy are three sons, Kenneth Sparks, Dale City, VA., Marlon Sparks, Dover, DE., Barry Sparks, Dale City, VA. Two daughters: Tina and Tara Sparks, Chestertown, MD. Stepdaughter Debbie Sparks Harris (James); one daughter-in-law, Mary Lynn Sparks; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two Aunts, Clara Cox and Pearl Hackett, devoted niece Barbara Ann Brown, niece/daughter Rosemary Johnson, two nephews/sons Michael Miller and Keith Harris. Extended family Charles & Sharon Smith and Trudy & Dionysia Harris. Special friends William, Terry and Rayvon Warren. Chosen Sisterhood friends, lifetime friend Lillian Brown, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Furry grand-children and protectors Buttercup and Star.
