Sylvia Ann Rider

With our hearts full of love, we celebrate the life of Sylvia Ann Bratten Rider, who peacefully transitioned from this life on August 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s, kidney failure, and congestive heart failure. Sylvia was born on November 15, 1947, to the late Sarah Catherine and Rossie Woodly Bratten. She received her formal education in the Salisbury School system and was a proud graduate of Salisbury High School in 1965. Shortly afterward, Sylvia began her lifelong career with Reads/Rite Aid Pharmacy, where she devoted 50 years of dedicated service—a milestone she cherished deeply. In 1965, Sylvia met the love of her life, Allen A. Rider, and together they welcomed two children, Alan DeLon Bratten and Tonia Nadine Bratten. Sylvia and Allen married in 1978, sharing 47 years of life filled with love, laughter, and family. In the early 1980s, Sylvia’s heart opened to Jesus Christ, and she embraced Him as her personal Lord and Savior. She became an active and devoted member of Mount Enoch Holy Church, where she proudly served as Financial Secretary for a time. Worship, laughter, family, work, and caring for her loved ones and beloved pets were her greatest joys. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Allen A. Rider; her parents, Sarah Catherine Hill Bratten and Rossie Woodly Bratten; four brothers, Ronald Louis Bratten, Lenwood Albert Bratten, Rossie Alfonso Bratten, and Alver Bratten; four nephews, Anthony Bratten, Lenwood Bratten, Jr., Kevin Bratten, Sr. and Carl Bratten and one grand-nephew, Chris Bratten. Sylvia leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories with: her children, Alan DeLon Bratten and Tonia Nadine Bratten; her beloved grandson, Printist Lamar Bratten; her sister, Doris May Bratten and brother, Edward James Bratten; three extra special nieces, Alva Daylynn Emory (Shawn), Angela Bratten, and Renee Pedro (Kenny); two special nephews, Ronald Bratten, Jr. and Michael Bratten; her sister in Christ, Annette Spence; her dear friends, Dr. Wanda Nichols and Apostle Lynnette Horton and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, godchildren, and friends.
