STEVEN’S JOURNEY... Steven Richie McKnight was born on February 26, 1947 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Mary E. Pinder and Albert McKnight. At the age of seventy-six (76), God called him home from his daughter’s home on Friday, February 22, 2024, surrounded by his family. Steve, as he was fondly known, received his education in the Dorchester County Public School and Baltimore Public School System. After school, Steve continued to live in Baltimore, Maryland for over fifty (50) years, where he established McKnight’s Painting as a contractor in Baltimore City. He decided to retire in 2023, once his health began to fail, and return to the Eastern Shore. Steve loved to laugh and would always speak his mind. He enjoyed driving to his hometown to spend time with his family on the shore. He found great pleasure sitting at the gas station, drinking coffee and talking with people. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends, especially his family in Hawkeye, along with Larry Molock, Maurice Pinder, Donald McKnight, Albert McKnight and Wayne Hayes. Steve was preceded in death by: one son, Steven McKnight, Jr. (Stink); one son-in-law, Marcus Nichols; one special daughter, Aisha Shields; his parents, Albert and Mary McKnight; grandparents, James and Ida Jones; four brothers, Frederick Jones, Sr., Albert McKnight, Jr. (Tater), Douglas McKnight and Andrew McKnight; one sister, Phyllis Pinder; three aunts, Anne Matthews, Juanita Jones and Mable Lake; one uncle, Curtis Jones; three nephews, Russell Pinder, Eddie McKnight and Frederick Jones (Bo Bo); great nephew, Dontrell Jones (Pudding) and great-great niece, Jih’nae Jenkins. Steve leaves to mourn in loving memory: one child, Shamaine McKnight Nichols; one brother, Clifford McKnight (Buddy); five grandchildren, Tyshawn McKnight, Mariah Haskins, Ty’nasia McKnight, Amyia McKnight and Tonodree McKnight; six great grandchildren, Tyshawn McKnight, TyZae McKnight, Le’Marion Chester, Trinity McKnight, Tytan McKnight and Le’yanni Johnson; one aunt, Gerldine Dockins (Marcellus); one uncle, Elder Wardell Jones (Pearl); four special sons, Montie Hayman, Andre Shields, William Shields and Aaron Shields; a special daughter, Monique Shields; one special friend, Deborah Shields and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
