Stephen Edward Dennis

Obituary Stephen Edward Dennis, at the age of seventy-seven (77), peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness, and now he “rests in peace.” He was born on April 15, 1943, to the late Levin and Daisy Schoolfield Dennis. Steve, as he was affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of Worcester County, Maryland, graduating from Worcester High School with the Class of 1961. After graduation, Steve obtained employment at Campbell Soup Company in Pocomoke City, Maryland, until its closing. He was resourceful and worked various jobs as a self-employed carpenter. He also worked with his brothers, Levin, William and Earl, who helped him to master his craft, as well as working with concrete and masonry. Steve married Grace Mills on December 24, 1963 and to this union two children, Karen and Darryle were born. Additionally, from anther relationship, Donte’ and Shante’ were born. Steve loved fishing, horses and horse racing, however his favorite was the game of basketball. He was a great mentor, coach, advisor, supporter, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who became the best cheerleader anyone could ever have. His children, grandchildren and children in the community who loved basketball as much as he did, became talented players with undeniable skills. His love of basketball produced memorable athletes who attended and graduated from Pocomoke Middle and High School. Karen and Darryle, Sr. were his pupils who began a generation of record–breaking talent with impressive stats. Their abilities were exemplary, and the rest is history. Steve loved to watch and support his family as the excelled in the game that he loved, as his grandsons, Mike, Mark, LaRon, Darrin, Darryle, Jr. and his only granddaughter, Mia, also picked up the torch and mastered the game as well. Clearly this made him one of the proudest Pop-Pop’s ever. She too joined the ranks of talented players who received many accolades. Steve loved all his grandchildren; however, he cherished his granddaughter who held a special place in his heart as the “Sweetest apple of her Pop-Pop’s eye.” Additionally, Steve was instrumental in guiding his son Darryle, Sr. to professionally love, train, and race horses. Cherished memories will remain with: his wife of fifty-seven (57) years, Grace Dennis; his four children, Karen Kinsey (Craig), Darryle Dennis, Sr. (Darlene) and Donte’ Taylor, all of Pocomoke City, Maryland and Shante’ Taylor Clemons (Arlester) of Fayetteville, Georgia; one brother, Earl Dennis (Winnette) and one sister, Allene Bozman, both of Pocomoke City, Maryland; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great–grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Queenie Dennis of Salisbury, Maryland and Mary Carrie Marie Dennis of Pocomoke City, Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, in-laws and friends and his life-long friends with whom he had a special bond, Edison Golden of Pocomoke City, Maryland and Robert Holden of Princess Anne, Maryland.
