Shirley Ann Merritt

Obituary Shirley Anne Dashiell Merritt, a resident of Salisbury, Maryland, peacefully transitioned from labor to rest on Friday, August 5, 2022, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, Maryland. Born in Hebron, Maryland on Sunday, January 30, 1938 to the late Doris Mae Dashiell Price and stepfather Claude Clifton Price, she lived life to the fullest for eighty-four (84) years. Shirley received her formal education in the Wicomico County school system. She often talked about attending Salisbury High School. Shirley was a homemaker and caregiver. Everything around her would be immaculate, but more than anything, she loved the Lord and could always be found praying and keeping her house open for 24 hour prayer. Shirley loved gardening and maintaining her yard with an abundance of colorful flowers. Shirley was a true friend to many. She was an active member of Delmarva Evangelistic Church until her illness. Shirley leaves to honor special memories: her daughter, Adrian Hugee (Terrence) of Salisbury, Maryland; her son, Graylon Nichols (Cynthia) of Seaford, Delaware; one brother, LaVaughn Price (Brenda); two sisters, Joan Claudette Dashiell and Shelia Fay Dashiell, both of Salisbury Maryland; one son-in-law, Arthur Freeman of Fruitland, Maryland; beloved former son-in-law, David Gates of Cowpens, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Brandy Gates and Tyracia Wheeler (Adam), both of Richmond, Virginia, Brandon Kellam of Manchester, New Hampshire, Brooke Kellam of Monroe, Washington, Takohra Dillard and Yashundra Dillard, both of Baltimore, Maryland, Devon Morgan and Patrick Corbin both of Salisbury, Maryland and Cornell Corbin of Seaford, Delaware, and a host of great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly. We also want to show appreciation and love to her friends, Violet Bedsworth and Betty Baine Williams. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Starling Merritt, her daughters, Alaine M. Freeman and Gloria Dillard, grandparents, Annie and Otis Dashiell, her sister, Melva Lynn Price Renteria and her brother, Lewis Lamont Rideout. SUBMITTED WITH LOVE, THE FAMILY
