Shirley C. Daisey

Shirley Corinne (Street) Daisey, 79, of Dover, DE, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Born on June 30, 1935, in Newport, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Martha Ann Street and the late Clarence Albert Street formerly of Millsboro, DE. She received her early education in Newport, but upon relocating to the Millsboro area she attended Hollyville School, Warwick #203, Richard Allen School, and William C. Jason Comprehensive High School. She would later achieve a certification in professional cake decorating. A proud wife, mother, and homemaker, Shirley focused her life on building a strong family. She was never happier than at family reunions, holiday gatherings or just visiting with her friends and relatives. Making the holidays or any family get-together memorable seemed to be her mission. She delighted in others enjoying the food she prepared, and was not too humble to compliment herself. Known for her chicken n’ dumplings, fried chicken, strawberry short cake, sweet potato pie, homemade ice cream, and decorated cakes, among other culinary delights, which along with her welcoming smile and warm embrace, made homecomings very special for everyone. Shirley served the Girl Scouts of America as a local and regional scout leader for over 30 years. She was a member of the Lioness/Lion Club for over 20 years, becoming a Melvin Jones Fellow. Shirley was also a long time Y-Teen leader, and enjoyed membership in the local “Birthday Club.” Her love of children guided her in helping to counsel and make a difference in the lives of a number of youth over the years, including partially raising several extended family members. Her often stated belief that “no one is better than me, and I am not better than anyone else” has kept her family confident yet grounded. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, William Harrison Daisey Sr. of Dover, DE. She is also survived by eight children, William H. Daisey Jr. and his wife Linda M. (Washington) of Swedesboro, NJ, Sarah L. Minor and her husband Frank W. Minor III of Logan Township, NJ, Deborah A. Street and her husband Gordon W. Street of Dover, DE, Darnell K. Daisey and his wife Lisa W. (Franklin) of Silver Spring, MD, Darryl B. Daisey and his wife Sari A. (Rosemond) of Garnet Valley, PA, Aida “Mam” (Boonsanong/Daisey) Binateeq and her husband Saleh Binateeq of Dover, DE, Junina N. (Feeney) Sullivan and her husband Tyrone T.Sullivan of Dover, DE, and Dionne L. Williford and her husband Evan O. Williford, of Hockessin, DE; two siblings, Elva E. (Street) Morris and her husband John W. Morris Jr. of St. Augustine, FL, and Norman R. Street and his wife Janell (Wills) of San Diego, CA; eighteen grandchildren, Derek W. Daisey and his wife Rosalyn D. (Dow), Damar A. Daisey, Brooke C. (Minor) Ferguson and her husband Edwin M. Ferguson Jr., Dwayne W. Street and his wife Jessica (Jurado), William “Shannon” Street, Tyan M. Collins, Lateefah Binateeq, Belinda M. Daisey, Jordan W. Minor, Briyana J. Chandler, Salma Binateeq, Ibrahim Binateeq, Cameron D. Daisey, Elise R. Williford, Benjamin J. Daisey, Bryce H. Daisey, Sophie E. Williford, and Warren T. Daisey; eight great grandchildren, Madison Y. Street, Nohealani Collins, Jovan T. Daisey, Jayden Collins, Dakota Collins, Kemani Collins, Madison R. Brisbane, Drew H. Daisey, and Luke W. Street; a god daughter, Tami Lee; a number of loving cousins, in-laws, nephews, and nieces; Shirley, along with William, also helped to partially raise three nieces, Patricia Feeney of Philadelphia, PA, Shirley Harris of Wilmington, DE, and Kathryn Clark of Bridgeton, NJ, and one nephew, Herbert “Buzzy” Carney of Indian Head, MD. Shirley was preceded in death by seven siblings, Edith M. (Street) Harmon, Melvin M. Street, Albert “Nelson” Street Sr., Tressa I. (Street) Carney, Emory W. Streets, Catherine E.
