Shelly Hitch

Shelley Elizabeth Hitch (“Sis” ), daughter of the late Colon and Shellie White, was born on September 29, 1933 in Venton, Maryland. She departed this life on Friday, July 31, 2015 at Genesis Health Care in Salisbury, Maryland. “Sis” started working early in her life. She was employed by the Green Giant Company in Fruitland, Maryland and then by the Campbell Soup Company, where she was employed for 36 years. She went to work every day in a clean white coat and came back home looking like she never worked. Shelley was a graduate of Greenwood High School in 1951. She joined the Church at an early age. As a member of Grace United Church in Venton, Maryland, “Sis” was a devoted Usher. In her latter years, she joined Trinity Faith Christian Center in Fruitland, Maryland. She was marred to the late James Hitch, Jr. (“Buddy”), the love of her life for 55 years, with whom she enjoyed time in Baltimore. Her generous and unselfish heart allowed her to raise three of her grandchildren as her own with Gods help and pure love—Debbie (Donald) Ballard , Cory White and the late Maurice Wigfall, all of whom will be forever grateful. Shelley enjoyed cooking, especially chicken and dumplings and honey bun cake. She loved shopping , talking on the telephone and she loved to dress. Her favorite T.V. shows were Jimmy Swaggert and The Talk. She also loved attending church. She leaves to cherish loving memories: three children Janice White and Doretha (Joseph) Selby of Princess Anne, Maryland and James Thomas Hitch III (Leslie) of Atlantic, Virginia; three sisters, Alice Collins of Venton, Maryland, and Ruth Jones and Wanda Cottman of Princess Anne, Maryland; two brothers, Charles White of Princess Anne, Maryland and 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one Godchild, Chantelle Bentley of Baltimore, Maryland; 2 sisters-in-law, Elsie White and Elizabeth Holden; step mother-in-law, Geraldine Hitch of Princess Anne, Maryland; a lifelong son, Tyrone Batson; 6 aunts, Dola Jones, Annie Jones, Jessie Spence, Emma Shrieves and Clementine Spence; special friends Maggie Hamilton and Ruth Brittan and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, “Sis” was preceded in death by Gale Selby, Maurice Wigfall, Colon “Bobby” White, Thelma Holbrook, Madeline Taylor, and Louis “Speedy” White.
