Sheldon Stouts Phillips

Sheldon Stouts Phillips, son of the late Sarah Roberta Stouts and Charles Phillips, was born on March 24, 1948, in Colemans, Maryland. After a courageous twelve-year battle, Sheldon was called to his eternal home on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in the comfort of his earthly home. Sheldon was educated in the public schools of Kent County. He attended Coleman Elementary School and graduated in 1966 from Henry Highland Garnett High School. Over the years, Sheldon held several positions, including working as a custodian for Kent County Public Schools. He was also employed at Summit Aviation and was a member of Local 199. After 30 years of dedicated service, Sheldon retired from Chrysler Corporation, where he was highly respected for his reliability and integrity. During his retirement, Sheldon remained active and service-oriented. Alongside his sister cousin Diane, he co-owned an assisted living facility known as “D’s Place.” He also volunteered at a local food pantry, where he generously gave his time to support those in need within the community. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethics, dedication, and unwavering commitment. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend who found great joy in spending time with his loved ones. He loved growing up in Coleman’s and playing ball with the more seasoned men of the community. Sheldon was known for his kindness, wisdom, and the love he shared so freely with those around him. He enjoyed watching sports, especially those Lakers and Orioles, playing pinochle and spades, spending time with his dogs, Stella and Nugget, and helping his wife, Monika with her dog treat business. Sheldon also enjoyed participating in his church’s bible study, singing in the men's choir, and enhancing songs with his strong tenor voice. He was someone who didn’t mind helping others and his presence and bright SMILE will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Roberta Stouts and Charles Phillips, first wife, Norma Lee Phillips, son Charles Phillips (Kippie), brother Bruce Phillips, and aunts and uncles. Sheldon leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 19 years, Monika Phillips; his children, Michelle Phillips, Lamont Phillips, Rotina Daniels (Lee), Tamera Walls, and Jim Walls (Shelley); eight grandchildren, Jeleesa Turner, Jonte Phillips, Amai Briscoe (Jeremy), Yasmine Jiggetts-Phillips, Aaron Walls, Ella Grace Walls, Thatcher Walls, and Naomi Hope Walls; one great grand daughter, Jayla Turner and one great grandson on the way; three siblings, Melvin Phillips (Brenda), Ramona Cockrell (Robert), and Duvill Bell (Belinda); a special sister cousin, Diane Anderson; Goddaughter, Sheba Thomas, and a host loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
