Sebastian Opie Sturgis

SEBASTIAN’S JOURNEY Sebastian “Opie” Sturgis, son of the late Macon and Timothy Gibson, was born on December 29, 1961 in Salisbury, Maryland at Peninsula Regional Hospital. He transitioned into eternal life on February 17, 2023 in Coastal Hospice at the Lake located in Salisbury, Maryland at the age of sixty-three (63). “Opie”, as he was affectionately known, attended Pocomoke High School in Pocomoke, Maryland, where he played football and basketball. He graduated with his high school diploma in 1979. Opie was employed by Sysco until his health failed. Prior to that, he also served in the United States Army for four years before being honorably discharged. Opie was joined in holy matrimony to Joyce Sturgis on Saturday, December 18, 1993. Their union was blessed with three beautiful children. Opie attended Trinity United Holy Church of America in Pocomoke, Maryland when he was able, under the leadership of Apostle Hattie Ewell. Opie was known for being an awesome provider for his family and his outgoing personality. His main goal was to enjoy life while he could. In his leisure time, he loved eating at Dayton’s Restaurant and watching football and basketball with family and friends. He was loved by many for his undeniable sense of humor, which left a long lasting impression on others whom he encountered. Opie had a special connection with his favorite uncle, Wesley Sturgis, so much so that every night at 10:00pm, they would sit up together and have a cup of coffee before bed. Opie leaves to cherish great memories: his daughters, Brichelle Jackson, Kiana Sturgis, both of Bowie, Maryland, Chloe Sturgis of Pocomoke, Maryland and a son, Sebastian Sturgis, Jr. and his wife, Jasmine Sturgis of Bowie, Maryland; two beautiful stepdaughters whom he loved as his own, Brittney Robins and Sgt. Major Brandy Hayward of New Jersey; grandchildren, Jaxson Sturgis, Jade Sturgis, Mason Schoolfield, Messiah Schoolfield and Semaj Mills and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Macon and Timothy Gibson, Opie was preceded in death by his favorite cousin, Michael Sturgis. LOVINGLY SUBMITTED ~ THE FAMILY
