Sarah Roberta Stouts

Sarah Roberta Stouts, “Bert”, daughter of the late Sarah Elizabeth Walley Stouts and John Stouts, was born on Friday April 15, 1927, in Colemans, Maryland. On Friday, May 31, 2019, very quietly, Bert was called to her eternal home while at Chester River Manor Campus Regional Hospice Care Health Services. Bert attended Colemans Elementary School from 1st grade to 6th grade. She graduated from Henry Highland Garnett High School. She continued her education at Bowie State College as an education major. Her aspirations changed and she transferred to a school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to pursue a career in business. Bert was employed with a private family for 10 years before becoming an employee of Delaware Hospital for The Chronically Ill, where she retired after serving 30 years, as an X-ray technician. She was a faithful member of Union United Methodist Church. In her early years of serving Christ, Bert was a part of the Usher Board and the Pastor Parish Committee. Growing up in a large family, Bert, like her sisters, enjoyed cooking. She was famous for making her homemade vanilla cake and apple pie. If you ever had the pleasure of eating her apple pie, you know what we are talking about. After retirement, she spent many weeknights watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”. Bert had a plethora of friends with whom she traveled, visiting places in the U.S., Canada, and Spain. During her spare time, she enjoyed reading, going to church, dressing up, and spending time with family and friends. Bert was preceded in death by her grandson, Charles Phillips “(Kippie)”; sisters, Mary Jones-Williams, Edith Gilliam, Lucille Jones, Mary Stouts Wilson, and Marjorie Stouts; brothers, Robert Graves and Herman Stouts; nephew, Delmus Wilson; and niece, Ruthie Henderson. Bert leaves to mourn her memory, her son, Sheldon Phillips (Monika); three grand children, Michelle Phillips, Lamont Phillips, and Rotina Daniels (Lee); four great-grandchildren, Jeleesa Turner, Jonte Phillips, Amai Wilson and Yasmine Jiggetts-Phillips; and one great-great grand-daughter, Jayla Turner; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
