Sarah Jean Stevens

SARAH’S LIFE STORY Sarah Jean Stevens, (67) the daughter of the late Pecola and Robert Stevens, was born on May 26, 1957, in Salisbury, Maryland. She departed this world on October 8, 2024, at her sister’s home, while under hospice care. Sarah was educated in the Wicomico County school system. She attended both Salisbury University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Sarah accepted Jesus Christ at a very young age She loved math and received a certificate in Accounting. Sarah was employed at the Call Center in Salisbury until it closed. Sarah was known for miles around for her famous yeast rolls, potato salad, and traditional Christmas “Yule Logs.” She was very debatable and would go tit for tat that she was correct. We often laughed at her trying to tell people what their names were. Sarah loved to sing and she would call everyone and sing Happy Birthday to them. We would always fall out laughing when she would just make up the words to a song. She did a lot of editing. Sarah loved gardening and she took pride in keeping her yard decorated with blooming flowers and bushes. Sarah loved to drive. The cousins and other relatives looked forward to long drives in her van. She loved vans. Sarah would be driving and if another vehicle tried to pass her, “she would put the pedal to the metal and say,” Oh NO”; get it Denzel (her beloved van); laughing all the time saying you can’t do anything with Denzel. Sarah would be out all times of the night, up until she just could not drive anymore. The family knew that something was going on when she parked “Denzel.” Sarah was the youngest of six living siblings. Those left to cherish her memories are: one daughter, Alicia Hughes of Salisbury, Maryland; one granddaughter, Sarizha Bivens (affectionately called her Boo) of Arlington, Virginia; three brothers, Howard (Margo) Stevens and Arthur Stevens, both of Salisbury, Maryland and Robert Stevens of Fruitland, Maryland; two sisters, Glendola Stevens and Mary Stevens, both of Fruitland, Maryland; three nieces, Belinda (Allen) Price, Ellen (Michael) Cutler, and Laneca Duggins; two nephews, Alexander (Valerie) Stevens and Lamont Duggins; three step-nieces, Cardiea (Jerome) Moore, Pandora (John) Washington and Margo (Marion) Brown and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Sarah had a very special and close friend, Ida Tilghman, who was there with her, every step of the way, right by her bedside, up until the very end. Those who preceded her in death were her mother, Pecola Stevens, her father, Robert Stevens, her sister, Brenda Joyce Polk, step-niece, Vanessa Jones and step-nephew, Chester Jones and great nephew Dondra Wilson.
