Sarah Garrison

Sarah’s Journey Sarah Margaret Garrison, 81, of Laurel, Delaware, received her wings on April 28, 2020, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. Sarah was born November 3, 1938, in Selbyville, DE, to the late Frank Purnell and Rosia Mae Mumford Brown. She received her education in the Worcester County Public School System and in 2008 was inspired to go back to school to earn her GED from Sussex Tech Adult Education in Georgetown. Sarah was a lifelong member of Calvary Pentecostal Church in Bishopville, Maryland, where she served faithfully for approximately 60 years under the tutelage of the late Bishop Willie G. Dukes and currently sat under her sister and Pastor Rosie M. Hall. She was a mother and matriarch of the church and served faithfully in every capacity. Prophetess Garrison, as she was affectionately known, dedicated her life entirely to the church and gained the utmost respect from the church and community for her role as the president of the Senior Usher department. Sarah retired in 2014 after 55 years of service. Truly, Mother Garrison was a woman after God’s own heart, whose faith stood on believing that whatever you do for God has to come from the heart! She loved anything involving church and the things of God. She also loved helping others and spending time with her family. Anyone that knew Mother Garrison, knew that if she could lend a hand she was right there. Sarah worked at Allen’s Hatchery in Dagsboro, DE, for many years and she also served as a housekeeper at the beach. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, James, her son, Charles and three sisters Ann, Hester, and Alice. Loving memories will be cherished by her daughter, Janet Banks (Ronzla Thomas) of Laurel; three sisters, Ellen Rayne of Selbyville, Pastor Rosie Hall (Edward) of Frankford, Francis Chisum of Felton, and Delores Banks of Georgetown; three grandchildren Tanya Mumford and Charlette Purnell of Goldsboro, NC and Jeremy Handy of Laurel; one great-grandson, Landen Handy; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends, as well as, the Calvary Pentecostal Church family.
