Samuel Leonard Cottman Sr.

Samuel Leonard Cottman, Sr., a resident of Princess Anne, Maryland, departed this life on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Deers Head Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland at the age of seventy-four (74). Affectionately called “Sam” by all who knew and loved him, he was born on March 5, 1945 to the late Willis and Annie Mae Cottman. Sam was educated in the Somerset County public school system. His employment included the former Winton Gouge Hatchery, Perdue Farms, Roger Richardson Trucking and being a self-employed truck driver, better known as “Tiger Rose”, from which he retired. This was a job that he genuinely enjoyed. He was known for his incredible hospitality and bringing family and friends together. Sam loved to cook and one of his specialties was curry goat with rice and red beans. He loved his vehicles, whether it was the car, truck or motorcycle. He always had to let us see or hear, what they would do. Sam was consistent and never waivered in his kindness to others. One of his favorite sayings was, “I’ll feed anybody”, and that he did. It would only take a second for him to fire up the grill, get a meal started and welcome any passerby. He will be sorely missed by all of his family and numerous friends. Sam leaves cherished memories with his devoted wife of fifty-four (54) years, Bernice Cottman. From this holy matrimony were three children, Lisa Matthews (Norman), Samuel Cottman, Jr. (Kim) and Tiffoni Cottman. Sam is also survived by: six grandchildren, Devrey, Norrie, Alysse (Jonathan), Alexis (Marques), Tatum and Samantha; three great grandchildren, Jonathan, Julian and Dallas; six sisters, Josephine Harmon, Elsie Collins, Vida Jackson (Richard), Margaret Grant, Lucille Cook and Betty Cottman; one brother, Omar Cottman (Joyce) and two god children, Margie Johnson and Darian Makle. He also leaves to mourn his loss several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, along with a host of cousins and other relatives. Sam loved all of his nieces and nephews, however, had a special bond with nieces, Myra Cottman and Kathy Grant and nephews, Winfred Cottman, Ray Grant, Michael Collins and Reginald Deshields. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by one sister, Lennie Cottman and brothers, Willis (Spud) Cottman, Preston Cottman, Randolph (Smitt) Cottman, Alexander (Buck) Cottman and Robert Lee Cottman, along with several in-laws.
