Ruth Anna Thomas

Ruth Anna Thomas of Dover, Delaware, born March 5, 1940, to the late Clarence Agard, Sr., and Hilda Hicks Gibson, departed this life on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Kent General Hospital. She was 77. When she first learned that her health had taken a left turn, she said in a whisper “Oh Lord, something else for my kids to worry about.” On that same day she decided, “I’ve gotta fight, Lord, I’m giving this to you.” And with her strong faith & determination, and her will to live, she did just that. When the odds were against her, and there were many times, she continued to trust in God until he decided, “OK GIRL, it’s time to come home.” Ruth was educated in the Dover, Delaware area , and was united in holy matrimony to Arnold Thomas, on February 23, 1957. Through this union, they were blessed with six children. Ruth attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Marydel, Maryland, where she was on the choir and served as an usher. She later joined Community Baptist and attended until her illness. She was an usher under ICUA of Delaware Unit #3. Ruth worked for the St. Benedictine School in Ridgely, Maryland, to later work at ConAgra, until retiring after 15 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Thomas, sons, Arnold H & Craig L., daughter, Teresa M., and brothers Alexander Gibson & Howard Jefferson. She leaves to mourn her memories, daughter, Jean (Johnson) Scott (Matthew) of Marydel, MD, son, James R. Thomas and daughter, Tami (Thomas) Wilson, both of Dover, DE; grandchildren, Brittaenee’ Bertty (Mike), Zachary Johnson, Brandon Thomas, Derek Thomas and Arnetta Smith (Edwin); great-grandchildren, Brennan Thomas, Na’vaeh & Zay’den Smith; sisters, Clara Carroll, Rosella Gibson, brothers, Clarence Agard, Jr & Leroy Gibson (Vivian) sisters-in-law, Margaret Jefferson, Helen Thomas & Audrey Gibson-Valdez; one uncle, Wallace Hicks (Helen); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.
