Russell Wright

Russell James Wright was born on Wednesday, June 21, 1933 to the late Gladys Watson and Melvin Eugene Wright. Russell was 81 years old when he went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 14,2015, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware. He was educated in the public schools of Milton, Delaware, 196C and completed his education at Benjamin Banneker School in Milford, Delaware. Russell served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. Through his life's journey, he worked at Waples Lumber Company in Milton, Delaware; Paramount Poultry Plant in Harbeson, Delaware and Seawatch in Milford, Delaware, where he retired. One of his favorite hobbies was playing the guitar. He was a member of the Voices of Hope Gospel Group singing and performing for over 20 years and served as President. He was a Master Mason of Rising Son Lodge #4, Free and Accepted Masons PHA of Milton, Delaware. Russell was a member of Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Ellendale, Delaware since December 31, 1985. He played the guitar for the choirs in the church, along with playing for the Voices of Hope who sang at many different churches. His favorite songs were "Sending Up My Timber", "I Shall Not Be Moved", "Down at the Cross", "In the Name of Jesus" and "All God's Children Will Be There" and many more. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Russell J. Hurst and Timothy Hurst and one brother, Kenneth Wright. Russell leaves to cherish his memory his loving and faithful caregiver and wife of over 50 years, Ruth Wright of Milton, Delaware and eight remaining children with whom he and Ruth were blessed: Jeffrey Hurst (Drucilla Pase), Georgetown, Delaware; Ruth A. (Donald) Gerald, Greenville, South Carolina; Beverly Davis, Dover, Delaware; Arlene (Thomas) Bowman, Ellendale, Delaware; Alvin Hurst, Donna, Texas; Sandra Hurst, Cambridge, Maryland; Curtis (Demetria) Hurst, Laurel, Delaware; June Hurst (Robert Mickens), Harrington, Delaware. He also leaves to mourn his loss, his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Pettyjohn & her husband, Robert Pettyjohn, Harrington, Delaware; Agnes Bryant and Patricia Blanchett, Milford, Delaware; three brothers-in-law, Robert Harris, Ellendale, Delaware; Clifford Hurst, Milton; Delaware and Othar Hurst, Milford, Delaware. Russell leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by family and friends and the many lives he touched.
