Russell Matthew Bailey Sr.

RUSSELL’S JOURNEY God has called one of His angels home to rest. Russell Matthew Bailey Sr., the son of the late John Bailey, Sr. and Dorothy Bailey, was born on May 3, 1944, in Princess Anne, Maryland in Somerset County. He departed this life on August 10, 2022, at the age of seventy-eight (78). Russell was a trooper and a fighter to the end. Russell, whom everyone loved, knew him as Matthew or Mac, attended the public schools of Somerset County. He held employment at General Tire Corporation and Campbell Soup in Salisbury, Maryland and retired from Guy Farms in Hebron, Maryland after forty-eight (48) years of service. Russell enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and hanging out with his buddies. Russell was an open-hearted person who would open his door to anyone in need. He was a man of his word, he said what he meant and meant what he said. Russell taught all his nephews how to hunt, fish and drive. He was everyone’s “Uncle Matt.” Russell leaves unforgettable memories with: his cherished wife, Charlotte Bailey of thirty-eight (38) years of marriage, both of whom have known each other a lifetime; his sons, Russell Bailey, Jr. and Russell M. Bailey II, both of Somerset County and Christopher Bailey of Salisbury, Maryland; his daughters, Theresa Bailey and Pamela Bailey, both of Salisbury, Maryland and Nicole Drummond of Anne Arundel County, Maryland; two sisters, Diane Tilghman of Princess Anne, Maryland and Joyce (William) Hopkins of Millsboro, Delaware. He also leaves behind to mourn their loss: seven sisters-in-law, Frances Shockley, Pamela (Dwaine) Shrieves, Cheryl (Sherwood) Ballard, Pecola White and Lena (Willis) Cottman, all of Salisbury, Maryland, Bonita (Derrick) Washington of Mardela Springs, Maryland and Faith (George) Gattis of Hebron, Maryland; four brothers-in-law, Dwight Dennis, David (Brenda) White and Terrance (Wanda) White, all of Salisbury, Maryland, and Reginald (Wendy) White of Fort Washington, Maryland; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. May he rest in peace along side of his parents, John Bailey, Sr. and Dorothy Bailey; his four brothers, John, Jr., Rodney, Sr. Thomas and Robert Bailey, Sr., two sisters, Shirley and Phyllis Bailey and his two grandsons, Deontrae and Russell Bailey III.
