Ruby Lucille Handy

The life of our beloved, Ruby Lucille Handy began on June 5, 1937, in Oriole, Maryland to the lat Harrison F. Maddox and Iva M. Maddox. She departed this life peacefully on the morning of January 1, 2025 at her residence surrounded by loved ones. Ruby was educated in the Somerset County school System . after graduating from high school. She met and married Hanson J.S. Handy Sr. and from that union their only son Hank, Jr. was born. She first began her employment as a cleaning Professional alongside her sister and brother –in-law in Trenton, New Jersey. After returning to Princess Anne, Maryland she worked in private domestic service for Yow, Jones, English and Ruffetta Families. Later on she worked in the unit of student affairs at the University Maryland Eastern Shore, in Murphy Hall as a “House Mother” and other duties until she retired. She attended First Baptist Church of Salisbury, Maryland she enjoyed good Beading and Gospel singing, until her health started to decline. Ruby enjoyed sewing, watching soap Operas, Game Shows and rooting for her favorite football team Baltimore Ravens and basketball team Philadelphia 76ers. Ruby leaves behind to cherish fond memories, her son Hanson “Hank” Handy, Jr.; seven grandchildren Jermaine Jones, Francine Handy, Tionna Bushaw(Jeremy Bushaw), Jennifer Jones, Travis Carpenter, Corey Carpenter-Handy and Shanita Hargrove; nine great gran children, Micheal’la Handy-Graham (DeWitt Graham), Maly sia Handy, Edwin Whitehead, Jeremy Bushaw (Mariah) , Josef Bushaw, Justice Bushaw , Makayla Cunningham, Michael Carpenter-Handy and Kalen Collins; great-great grandchildren, London Handy-Dorsey , Logan Handy Dorsey , Jiliana Graham , Enzo Bushaw, and Kash Bushaw; five brothers , Charles Maddox(Annette ) Alton Maddox(pat), William Maddox (Burdenia), Randolph Maddox (Lovey) and Omar Maddox (Marie); four sisters, Mary Jane Hall (Oliver), Gussie Anne Maddox, Carolyn “Patsy” Copeland (Earl) and Geraldine Maddox(Norman); one brother-in-law- Oliver “Sonny” Hearn, one Special daughter-in-law Cynthia Handy, a host of other nieces, cousins and friends; a close friend The Ruffetta. In addition the her parents she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver “Eddie” Maddox and Reverend Ralph Jackson, one sister Doris Elsie Hearn, her former Husband Hanson JS Handy, Sr. two grandchildren Michael “Mikey” Hand and Raven Handy
